I am currently attending Providence college. This year I worked as a teacher's assistant in a inner city classroom. I was able to work with twenty-six wonderful first grade students. In this position I helped children with Special Needs achieve their goals for the academic year. I also volunteered in an afterschool enrichment program for inner city students. In this program I helped fourth and fifth graders with their homework. I also was able to set up many fun group building activities.I love giving back to the community. I have worked with Habitat for Humanity and I am an active member of my school's ESL Club. In ESL club I help adult Spanish speaking students learn the vocabulary they need for their day to day activities. I have also tutored High School and College students in History, English, Spanish, Art History, and Religion. I love being able to find creative solutions to problems. I think that everyone approaches learning differently. In my opinion, teachers need to be flexible and they need to adapt to their students needs. True Learning can only take place when a student feels respected and safe.

My goal is tutoring is to help my students be the best learner that they can be. I am willing to help a student reach higher grades, but more important to me than the grade is that the student is actually getting something out of what we are doing, and truly learning, not just retaining information, but engaging with the material and enjoying what they are learning. I firmly believe that hard work pays off, and with the right encouragement and help, a student can achieve anything they set their mind to. You're never to old to learn something new, and the doorways opened by education are endless.
I graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Civil Engineering degree. I worked as a CVE for 5 years and decided to change careers and become a Secondary Ed. math teacher. I earned my teaching certificate from Providence College and taught for 5 years. I also have my masters degree in Guidance Counseling. I have been a math tutor for over 10 years and am very excited to join Varsity Tutors! I tutor students in Algebra I, II, Geometry, and Precalculus. Tutoring allows me to do what I love while simultaneously helping students become successful confident math students. My teaching/tutoring style is flexible and unique to each student. I encourage students to think for themselves rather than give them the answers. It is important that students learn how to approach different problems using prior knowledge. I encourage them to do that while also giving them the math support they need before frustration sets in. Tutoring has been an extremely positive experience for me and I look forward to continuing that with Varsity Tutors!
I am a certified teacher with three years of experience teaching a variety of subjects at all grade levels. The foundation of my teaching philosophy is the high expectation for learning that I have for my students and respect for the tools and attitude they bring to their own education. I always encourage my students to achieve their best while facilitating their mastery of subject content and study methods within each of my lessons. Working closely to address the individual needs of each student, I can provide highly individualized instruction using a diverse range of teaching strategies to maximize learning and retention.
I've been in the field of education for fifteen years. In that time I've worked with students from all walks of life, and from all over the world. I've taught/tutored on a wide range of subjects, including SAT/ACT/GED/AP/SSAT Prep. In addition, I have taught college Composition, AP English Language and Composition, Creative Writing, grammar, and reading. My main purpose in becoming a tutor is help students achieve their goals, both academic and otherwise.
I am passionate about my subject matter and believe that that passion is contagious when it comes to students. I think it's important for students to "buy in" to education and to see how they can implement what we are teaching them in their lives. I strive to make students feel as comfortable as possible and convey that making mistakes is all part of the learning process, and it's how we improve.
I am an elementary school teacher with over 15 years' experience working with students in all core subjects. Please contact me so we may discuss how I can help your child in their learning.
I'm a 4th year medical student at New York Medical College, but I am in Philadelphia for one year for medical research. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a strong background in science courses, pre-med curricula, scientific writing, creative writing and presentations. I have tutored middle school, high school and college students in science, writing, and research-related topics and tasks like working through peer reviewed papers or designing research projects. I also teach two middle school biology classes over zoom.As a biology major in college, I have a strong soft science background (including marine bio, freshwater bio, ecology, genetics, molecular bio, biochem...) so please connect with me if you would like to work together in a science class.I eventually got to medical school, but a lot of classes didn't come easily for me along the way -- I know how it feels to hit roadblocks, but I have also gained valuable experience about how to overcome them. What kind of learner are you? Visual? Kinesthetic? Don't know? Let's figure it out, and then study in a way that works for you. Lets talk it out, draw it out, make up fun mnemonics-- whatever it takes to meet your goal and ace that test, and more importantly, to learn it for GOOD. I am so excited to work with you!
Do you remember that teacher from when you were in school? Not A teacher. THAT teacher. The one that stayed late after class to tutor you. The one that gave you the confidence to push yourself further and to work harder. The one you would want to see one more time so you can tell them what a difference they made. What was their name? For me his name was Mr. Walker, and I know that I would not be where I am today is it was not for him. I did not get into this profession to be a teacher. I was called to this profession to be THAT teacher. The funny thing about being THAT teacher, though, is that they are never just a teacher. Often, they take on whatever roles they need to in order to make a difference. So, although I have only been at this for half a decade, I have always attempted not just to be the best teacher but to be the best curriculum coordinator, data analyst, or counselor I can be. When my school switched to Common Core Standards I volunteered to make sure these standards were implemented in a way that built off of the curriculum we already had in place. When thirty-four of our students were not going to graduate because of their NECAP score, I analyzed every piece of data available to best identify the gaps those students had. And after my administration met with these students and their parents I created and taught a summer camp to address these gaps.I hope you will give me the opportunity to be THAT teacher for you. I appreciate your time and hope to speak with you soon.
I am a recent graduate of Providence College, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, with honors. At Providence, I tutored general chemistry to freshmen in the individual and group settings. In my sessions, students used problem-based learning for better understanding of the subject and to strengthen their problem solving skills. I really enjoy helping students tackle this oftentimes challenging subject and grasp difficult concepts. Chemistry is a subject that builds on the previous learned skill, so when necessary, I will always take the time to go back to the fundamentals to make sure the student understands the bigger picture.Since graduating, I have been working as a research assistant on clinical trials at a hospital in Manhattan. In my free time, I like to run long distance, read, bake, and explore the City.
I am a graduate of Providence College with a Bachelor's of Science. I am currently enrolled in a graduate program at Lesley University where I am studying Secondary Education. In the fall I will be starting my fourth year as a 9th grade Algebra and Geometry teacher.Prior to teaching, I was a substitute teacher for two years. I started tutoring Algebra this past year; I enjoy working with students one-on-one.I understand that math isn't everyone's best subject, but it can be practiced! Nobody should be categorized as a "math person" or "not a math person," because it is a skill that I can help you acquire. Please let me make math easier for you!
My love for teaching began in the basement of my childhood home. I would call my little brother, my little sister, and all my stuffed animals down the stairs and set up my classroom. It was a very simple classroom with just a few chairs and a small chalkboard easel, but it ignited my passion for teaching and guiding students. Lessons have come a long way, from practicing letters and words on that easel to solving complex math problems, but that passion still remains.I graduated from Providence College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. I concentrated my studies in Anatomy and Mathematics while in the Pre-Med program. I started tutoring the beginning of my Sophomore year in college, and have loved it ever since. My tutoring experience ranges from middle school level up to college level Biology and Mathematics. My two favorite subjects to tutor are general biology and algebra because both are like puzzles. The pieces of the problem all have to fit in order to see the correct answer. When I am tutoring, my goal is to meet the student where they are. This involves investigating where the student may be struggling or need guidance and building a foundation from there.Even though I love homework, I have many interests outside of academia. I love to do anything outdoors, from running to hiking to swimming in the ocean. I grew up playing hockey, and I continue to play today.
