The student and I worked together on Mathematics today. He worked for fifteen minutes then got a 90 second break. He was able to complete three out of four sections. We worked on ratios, least common denominator, and median. He understood median and least common denominator the best by the time I left.

The student had some homework problems she needed help with. The first, the Ferris wheel problem, she had done correctly except for a small mathematical error at the start of her calculations that messed everything up. After we went through the problem the way the author intended, we went through it the way I did it before I knew what the author wanted. Going over it both ways seemed to help clear things up for her. After that we spent the remainder of our time working on visualizing sin and solving for various angles using inverse sin or regular algebra.

Math Tutoring review by Ivan in Lansing, IL
Today the student and I looked over some indefinite integral problems in preparation for his AP exam coming up in a couple of weeks. We worked through some previous quiz material dealing with regular definite integrals, as well as integrals requiring u-substitution. He was pretty comfortable with the material, only making a few small errors here and there, which he usually caught himself doing once he re-read his work. He seems very prepared, and we will continue to look over integrals involving other functions (such as natural logs and exponential functions), and we will have our last session on Sunday!

We reviewed topics of trigonometry since he did not have new material to go over. He understands concepts well, but has minor trouble with calculation of trigonometric values. I assigned some homework on these problems, along with graphing trigonometric functions.

Math Tutoring review by Pieta in Lansing, IL
Today, we began by looking at fractions. The student said she just had a test in school on fractions, and she thinks she did well. We took it a step further looking at fraction equivalencies and fraction reducing. First I used visuals; then we moved to numbers. She caught on quickly. Next, we did an entire lesson of Sunshine math word problems, and then I had her begin a third grade standardized test covering: time; measurement; fractions; multiplication, and division. She asked to practice multiplication on her computer, and so we did that for 5+ minutes.
