Trigonometry Tutoring review by Jackson in Lansing, IL
We continued our review for the student's upcoming test today. She is doing much better with areas and parameters. We also did some work on order of operations which she also did fairly well with. She did struggle a bit when we examined problems that mixed addition, multiplication and division together. Going forward I want to continue our constant review of areas and further study order of operations.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Hannah in Lansing, IL
I worked with the student on two of his assignments that focused on conic sections. The first assignment was all parabolas in standard form (with a, h, and k). We went over how to find the vertex, the focus, and the directrix. We also reasoned through how you would be able to tell if it is a vertical or horizontal parabola, and what would cause it to face the other direction. The next assignment looked at the rest of the conic sections: hyperbolas, ellipses, and circles. He grasped the circles very quickly, since they are pretty simple. The hyperbolas and ellipses took some more research, but we worked through it together.

The student and I reviewed several sample problems given to his class by their teacher as examples of what will be on this Wednesday's exam in class. He seemed to have a good handle on the material. We discussed a few things that I was able to clarify but, for the most part, he seemed to understand the material pretty well. We will review some sample multiple choice questions tomorrow night. Those are the problems that he has reported to me cause him the most trouble.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by James in Lansing, IL
We worked on the student's homework covering multi-step equations. The student struggled initially, but after some reinforcement and more practice, she seemed to grasp the problems by the time we finished. I left her with some pointers on how to remember the processes needed to solve the problems.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Kimyen in Lansing, IL
Today, we were able to do a run through of the flashcards and also worked on some worksheets with math mazes and mystery pictures. The student has been doing well, but she is still struggling with basic subtraction and questions relating to large numbers. For next time, I'd like to try something new and work with her on the computer so that it is more engaging and interactive for her. She loves to play games and being able to visually see her score/improvements. I think playing on the computer will also help her get comfortable answering questions with a limited amount of time.
