My love of teaching stems from my love of learning! I believe education is the answer to so many of our questions, both personal and communal. My goal is always to make lessons both challenging and fun.
I believe instilling confidence in my students is just as important as teaching subject material. It is invaluable that students have the confidence, motivation, and know-how to tackle difficult material on their own, especially when help isn't readily available.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and French from the University of Wisconsin, Madison (3.7 GPA).
I have a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, Poetry, from Arizona State University (4.0 GPA).
I have been teaching English and French classes for the past decade. Most of that time has been as a Professor of English and Writing. At the university level, I have taught Freshman Composition (Argument, Research, Evaluation, Critique, Analysis, Synthesis), Creative Writing, and Creative Non-fiction, Literature, Film, and Cultural Awareness. I often work one-on-one with students for assignments in my own classes, but also for writing assignments they have in other courses.
I have also taught several summer school courses on ACT and SAT Test Preparation. I taught courses on how to successfully write the essay portion of the standardized test, and how to prepare for the reading, grammar, and vocabulary sections.
Also, I taught at the Institute of Reading Development for two summers. This program specializes in advanced reading and writing skills for students.
I briefly taught middle school French at a private college prep school for one semester while the teacher was on maternity leave. I often substituted for the high school French teachers at the same school. I also taught French classes during summer. I have traveled to France twice: once to Paris and once throughout Southern France. My accent is classic Parisian, which I was complemented on a lot.
I am very flexible in teaching style, ready to adjust to student needs and learning styles. I can tutor according to a particular assignment or textbook, or I can provide my own designed lessons.
