Microbiology Tutoring review by Marcella in La Habra, CA
Today's session covered the Bohr Model of the hydrogen atom. We discussed electron energy levels, energy absorption and emission, wavelengths and frequency of electromagnetic radiation and related the concepts to the hydrogen atom spectrum. We worked through the student's worksheet. At the conclusion of the session, the student expressed confidence in understanding the topics we covered today.

Today we continued reviewing the equilibrium constant problems from last week and then moved on to acid/base. We talked about Arrhenius vs Bronsted-Lowry acids and bases, pH and pOH and how to calculate both; Kw, Ka, and worked practice problems for these concepts.

Microbiology Tutoring review by Michael in La Habra, CA
In this session, we worked on concepts from this chapter of chemistry, discussing polarity, and how it relates to different bond types and geometries. She was given a brief introduction to molecular and electron geometries. Upon my arrival at this session, she told me that she had a surprise quiz, and scored the highest grade in the class, over 100% correct due to extra credit. This is extremely encouraging, and I hope that she continues to do this well!

Microbiology Tutoring review by Camille in La Habra, CA
Today, the student and I continued with reactions and balancing equations. To guide our study we used her textbook, study guide for a prior test, and the prior test itself. She would like to do more practice with balancing equations, so I will email some additional materials. We also reviewed ionic, covalent, and metallic bonds, and intermolecular reactions, by re-taking her prior test. Her performance tonight indicated that were she to take the test again for credit, her grade would be significantly improved. I've encouraged her to review concepts including electronegativity and the VSPER model configurations. For our next session on 3/7, the student and I will prepare four questions, one of which she will encounter on her upcoming test, and come up with solid responses. In addition, we will continue with stoichiometry and gas laws.

Microbiology Tutoring review by Christopher in La Habra, CA
The student and I worked on concepts relating to the electron configuration of atoms: i.e. Lewis dot structures, electron orbitals, etc. Although there were some clear concepts to iron out, she had a very clear understanding of the material. By the end of the session, she had shown clear mastery of the concepts we discussed.

Microbiology Tutoring review by Leslie in La Habra, CA
Previous to this session I sent a few videos about reactions to the student and she reviewed them, asking a few questions. Today the student and I reviewed decomposition and combustion reactions, some from her recent quiz and some from problems I provided. First we reviewed the 5 major rules/approaches to decomposition problems, and did practice problems until the student felt comfortable. Then we reviewed combustion and balanced several equations. Molecules were drawn out to demonstrate what charge they are and the periodic table was used as a reference to show how elements get the common charges they have. The student picked up these approaches very quickly, and was doing both types of problems with confidence by the end.
