The student has begun school, so instead we're focusing on the work that his school has given him. He did not bring any workbook or textbook for Spanish home, but he did describe what they were working on in school. I had some worksheets printed out and it worked out well that it matched the material he is learning in school. We practiced for his Spanish project for next week.

Spanish Tutoring review by Xiomara in La Habra, CA
The student is a very happy kid. He enjoys coloring books and learning new words. It's the first time that he has learned words in Spanish, and he seems to have fun with it. As a very young child the classes must be fun and entertaining, so I am using printed material with the names of animals in Spanish that he can color. He's also traced letters and repeated names as he listened to them. I gave his mother some kid's calligraphy as homework that he can do with the help of his father who is a native Spanish speaker. I am emailing his mother a list of materials that she might have available for the next session.

Spanish Tutoring review by María Paz in La Habra, CA
The student is starting school at the end of this week, so we took a look at the new topics he will be learning this school year. The first chapter is on vacation and activities that took place in the past. We got familiar with new vocabulary addressing activities both in the summer and in the winter. This is the first time we are using the preterit, one of 2 tenses of the past tense. We learned the conjugations for 2 irregular verbs and the ending patterns for regular -ar verbs. I asked him to write down the conjugation of the verbs: -ir and -ser in the present tense. Then, I wrote down the conjugations in the preterit. He was very focused when learning this new conjugations. I asked him to write down the new conjugations on an index card and post it on his wall to help him remember.
