Tutoring review by Kevin in Cudahy, CA
The student was in need of review for an exam she has tomorrow. We covered integration by substitution, numerical integration, derivatives of the natural log function, and integration of the natural log function. It's clear that she is understanding the basic concepts but I stressed to the student that she needs to continue to practice problems to sharpen her skill set. I provided the student with a list of derivatives and integrals that I found useful to memorize. I also provided the student with a list of sample problems and solutions.

We started today's session off with some interest word problems. I then had her practice teaching the concept to me. She is definitely prepared to present to her classmates. From there we decided to move on to a new topic. We started discussing probability including coin tosses, rolling dice, and pulling items randomly out of a bag. We also did some questions about a deck of cards. She seemed to enjoy the challenge, and I even had her practice teaching me how to do the problems and come up with her own.

Today we went over molar ratios (a simplified version) and I think it helped the student a lot. She then went over one of her homework problems and had no problem solving it. She has a very good understanding of partial pressures now. Since everything seemed to make sense regarding ideal gases, we introduced the concept of Kinetic Molecular Theory. Tomorrow we will pick up there.

Tutoring review by Hadiya in Cudahy, CA
We began the session with a review of the distributive property since I knew we would be using it later on in the session. Next, I had him graph some simple inequalities. He had all of them correct. We moved on the solving one-step inequalities. He also did well with these problems. The only difficulty he had in this session was when we moved on to two-step inequalities. He had to be reminded that the sign flips if he divides or multiplies by a negative number. Since he struggled in this area, I gave him a few more problems to complete for homework.

Tutoring review by Rachel in Cudahy, CA
In the time since last session, the student got an extension on his essay corrections. As a result, we took the extra time to go over more revisions together. We started again with the end of his introduction, where we left off last session. We again focused on incorporating descriptive language to make his thesis and introduction more specific. We also heavily revised his thesis in order to clarify the organization of the essay as well as identify the primary areas of focus of the paper. He switched the order of two of his paragraphs in order to improve the flow of his essay. Since there are several days before our next session, I wrote some comments on the rest of his paragraphs for him to address before Thursday. Finally, we looked at one sentence imitation assignment briefly and went over it for a few minutes.

Tutoring review by Chris in Cudahy, CA
The student and I spent our session mostly working on implicit differentiation. We first reviewed the basic concepts and then moved to reviewing homework problems. The notations used for implicit differentiation can be confusing, so I suggested some changes he could make to help him get the hang of it initially. We talked about some of the main difficulties encountered in problems using implicit differentiation and made sure to work at least one example of each. Then, we spent a little time going over the rules for differentiating exponential functions and logarithms, and we worked problems that practiced combining those rules with previous ones such as product rule and chain rule. The student grasps concepts quickly and is very diligent in solving problems, showing his work between steps clearly. I believe once we have reviewed and briefly practiced a concept, he will be able to master it on his own while doing homework problems.
