Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Zhan in La Habra, CA
We first practiced tone and pinyin. I checked the student's homework. Today's new lesson was 8 different new tones, and we practiced them one by one. I mixed and matched both groups so he can learn how to say them together and produce the sound. The last thing we did today was to make flashcards for all the vocab in lesson 5. I taught him one by one how to combine each character into different groups and make flashcards so they will be easier for him to identify and memorize. The homework is to make the rest of the flashcards and keep practicing pinyin and tones.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Wenpei in La Habra, CA
We went over the preposition "dui," emphatic patterns, and additional use of "bi." I also noticed the student can understand and use the grammar well when the sentence structure revolves around that single grammar rule. However, she can struggle a bit when there are multiple grammar rules applied in a sentence. I told her to list out all her grammar structures she has learned in the past. This way, when she is confronted by multiple grammar sentences, she can make better sense of it. The lesson will only get more complicated, so until she can internalize the rules, having a cheat sheet by her side when she practices Chinese will help guide her to produce coherent sentences, paragraphs, and essays, etc. She is also making great improvement on writing Chinese characters.
