Languages Tutoring review by Angie in Mount Prospect, IL
We talked about different ways that the student could study Spanish during the week. Once she began working in the book she has, she discovered that it is not as focused on conversational Spanish as she would like, as that is her goal. I told her not to hesitate to email me throughout the week if she needs guidance or new ideas for studying so that she continues to practice. We focused this session on conversation so I asked her more questions about herself and her family. This went really well. I write the conversation on the document editor as we talk so that she can see the words written as well. I sent her a word document of what I wrote in the document editor so that she can study that as well. This week she is going to work in her verb book and focus on gerunds because they are very useful in conversation.

Languages Tutoring review by Mark in Mount Prospect, IL
This session we continued working with reflexive verbs. After reviewing how and why the reflexive is used, the student completed two longer spoken exercises describing the daily routine of various people. In this, he demonstrated a good grasp of vocabulary and of the grammar that he has learned. I was particularly impressed by his ability to use the preterit. We then looked at a particular set of reflexive verbs: the most common verbs used to mean "to become." He seemed to pick this up quickly. We will continue to work on these and focus on conversational Spanish in the upcoming sessions.

The indirect object pronouns were covered today. We practiced the conjugation of the verb gustar and other verbs similar to it. We had a dictation, so the student wrote sentences practicing the vocabulary seen up until now. Her writing and listening comprehension is excellent, and her Spanish pronunciation has improved a lot.

The main topic we worked with was words for daily routines / reflexive verbs. Since this was our first session, it gave me a chance to learn something about the student's skill level. He has some knowledge of present and preterite conjugation that we can build on and an impressive vocabulary. We also had time for free conversation in Spanish. I encouraged him to work on the reflexive verb exercises in both present and preterite. As our next topic, I think it will be good to step back and solidify present and preterite tense with the goal of increasing precision in conjugating of regular verbs.

The session with Student 1 consisted of an essay prompt and practicing our Spanish speaking skills. Together, the student and I work on learning new vocabulary, Spanish phrases, and working on our grammar and listening skills. My second half of the session was shared with Student 2. Student 2 and I work together on Spanish stories, learning new vocabulary, and reviewing material from previous weeks.
