Session Summaries by Physiology Tutors

Physiology Tutoring review by Lindsay in Mount Prospect, IL
During this session, the student and I went through the different types of cellular transport, focusing on the types her teacher had previously expected her to know. She was somewhat confused by the terminology for transport, which is understandable, but I tried to do my best to help her understand what was going on in each of the types of transport. We also went through a geometry worksheet she had that night.

During this session, we continued to work on data cleaning, organization, and analysis for the student's assignment. For the next session, we plan to review for the final. Since I think she struggles most with recalling information and critically thinking on her own, this is something that we will be working on so that she can go into her final prepared and with confidence.

Physiology Tutoring review by Jordan in Mount Prospect, IL
During this session, we covered meiosis and all of its stages in depth. We addressed the differences between meiosis and mitosis, what cells they produce, if they are haploid or diploid, and which produce genetic variation. We also looked at mutations and the differences between deletion, inversion, and translocation. We talked about the necessity of going slowly to make sure the student reads the questions correctly, especially since the two words meiosis and mitosis are quite similar.

Physiology Tutoring review by Rasha in Mount Prospect, IL
During this session, we covered the molecular geometry and hybridization of atomic orbitals, including the VSEPR model to predict the geometry of the molecules, dipole moments and polar molecules, behavior of polar molecules, change in PE and electron density as two hydrogen atoms approach each other, and hybridization. We covered sp, sp2, and sp3 hybrid orbitals, and sigma and pi bonds. We then moved on to the molecular orbital theory, constructive and destructive interference, molecular orbital configurations, delocalized molecular orbitals, and how to calculate the bond order. The rest of the session was dedicated to reviewing the exercises the instructor had given. I included some strategies to memorize hard terms. The session went well, and was productive.

Physiology Tutoring review by Diana in Mount Prospect, IL
During this session, we practiced the student's presentation for the science fair. She was able to go over her presentation three times and was given pointers. She took them under consideration and tried to fix them. She was cooperative and agreed to continue practicing for her science fair.
