I was designated as gifted early in my academic career based on scores I earned on aptitude tests. I am an Advanced Placement Scholar, a National Merit Semi-finalist, and a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars honor society among academic recognition I have earned. I was accepted to multiple "T-14" (top fourteen) law schools, including Georgetown Law, which, among other schools, offered me an academic scholarship based on my personal, academic, and professional achievements. Among my tutoring specialties is the SAT on which I scored in the 99th percentile, including perfect scores on the verbal section. I have helped many others increase their SAT performance significantly within a short amount of time by thoroughly breaking down the exam material. I enjoy working with others to help them achieve their maximum performance.

I earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Butler University in 2004. After graduating from Butler, I enrolled in a PhD program at the University of Georgia. At Georgia, I was doing research and taking classes, but I was also a teaching assistant. I fell in love with teaching and ended up leaving Georgia to pursue my Masters degree in Education and my teaching license. I began teaching high school chemistry in 2008 and earned my Masters in Education from Indiana University in 2010. I have been teaching high school chemistry and honors chemistry since 2008 and have loved every minute of it. I am rated highly effective in my evaluations as a high school teacher teaching chemistry.

Presently I am a full-time Middle School Social Studies and Religion Teacher at Holy Family Catholic School in Dale City, VA. I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade and am a 7th grade homeroom teacher. This is my eighth year at this school.Previously, I was working full-time as a Long-term Substitute Theology Teacher at the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, MD. I taught five classes of a total of over 100 students. Before that, I worked as the Director of Religious Education at St. Mary's in Rockville, MD and as a Part-time Tour Guide at the Franciscan Monastery in Northeast Washington, D.C. For the former I was in charge of the CCD program which included over 320 students.Prior to that, I completed my MA in church history at The Catholic University of America; prior to that I received my BA in political science and history from Syracuse University. The bulk of my tutoring has been with elementary school and middle school children in the subjects of Reading, Writing, and Math. I am well equipped to help students of these levels improve in those skill areas; if you have a child struggling in one of those areas, or want to help your child get ahead, I'm definitely the tutor for whom you are looking.I am especially well educated in US history (I received a 5/5 on my AP US History Exam and a 740 on the SAT II in US History) and am well versed in European history, especially Church history. I am also quite skilled in the field of Biblical studies. I look forward to helping share my knowledge, insight, and passion for all of this subject matter with various students.

10th Grade Math Tutor • +68 Subjects
The reason I want to be a tutor is because I like to help students achieve success in a difficult subject such as math. I want to show them even though it is a subject of great difficulty, math can still be learned. To learn math is to learn the approach and steps to the problem. The most important thing is to understand why the approach is taken this way or another way. Math is an interesting subject as there are many routes to solve a problem. My goal is to show the quickest/efficient way for students to understand easily and sometimes I will create inventive ways to help students possibly memorize formulas or solve the problems. I hope with each session that each student can learn at least on tip/strategy/concept of the math topic being taught. With that said, the same can be done with chemistry. Chemistry is about a quarter memorization, but more importantly three-quarters understanding. Once any student understands the concepts of a chemistry topic, memorization becomes easy. With chemistry, I will often relate the concept to real life so this way understanding can be much easier. My goal is to definitely guide each student to the desired grade he or she wants.

Certified Reading Intervention Tutor • +30 Subjects
As a 25-year veteran educator, I am passionate about teaching students and helping all learners understand difficult areas. I received my bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Arlington. I then went on to get two Master's degrees, one in educational leadership and the other as a Certified Reading Specialist and Master Reading Teacher.Reading and writing are my passions, but I also love tutoring in Math. There is something so rewarding about helping a student understand something they found challenging. Sometimes it just takes a different teacher to help the student see what they were doing wrong, and that is why I love what I do.I believe all learners can be successful if they have a patient teacher, a willingness to do their best, and time to get the work completed.

I recently graduated from Johns Hopkins with a degree in Economics and Behavioral Biology. During my time there, I tutored both individuals and group classes in courses including Microeconomics, Chemistry, and Spanish. I learned I really enjoyed helping students one-on-one and working through problems together. While a large part of my tutoring experience is with college-aged students, I also worked as a Teacher's Assistant for grades 1st-3rd and have experience working with younger children in subjects such as math and reading! Lastly, as I am now currently in my gap year before medical school, I would also enjoy the opportunity to help other students pursue their dreams of attending medical school by helping prepare them for the MCAT.
