The student has a test tomorrow, so we went through his review problems. The topics included everything we've worked on in our sessions so far. He has been working hard and has absorbed the information really well. He knows and understands all of the theorems and facts and effectively uses them to solve most questions.

Tutoring review by Dawn in Mount Prospect, IL
The student and I started the session with a discussion of Friday's exam on quadratic functions. She did extremely well on it. The points she missed were due to simplification and small errors. She has no concept issues on quadratic functions. Her new chapter is on polynomial functions. We began with adding/subtracting polynomials. Then we worked on multiplication including the binomial theorem. She has a very good handle on all of these topics. We started talking about math for her ACT/SAT exam. We did a brief overview of what the math section of the ACT consists of, including the number of questions, layout of questions, order of difficulty, use of figures, accuracy, and timing.

Today we were preparing for the student's tests tomorrow in both algebra 2 and chemistry. In math we looked specifically at powers and fractional exponents, and then went on to working on problems that involved completing the squares. In chemistry we went over radioactive decay, isotopic abundances and going over subatomic particles. Overall she is doing very well and seems to have a good understanding on the topics. I told her that she should go over some practice problems for math to help solidify her understanding on the topics.

Tutoring review by Vanessa in Mount Prospect, IL
We worked on naming line segments and angles in figures based on corresponding parts. We worked on the student's math models project on collecting data and representing it in scatter plots. We then found the best fit line, and she needed to discuss the trend and her results. She had a positive attitude throughout the session. I helped her name included angles between line segments, and after discussing it, she had a good understanding of naming angles.

I worked with student on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. Some of the questions contained mixed numbers while some did not. She was able to determine the lowest common denominator with a 90% accuracy. I also worked with her on solving basic one and two step equations. We will be meeting again next Tuesday.
