The student is still covering properties of exponents. Today we started with a review over previously covered sections because of Spring Break. She still needs help knowing when to add exponents versus multiply them. I had her come up with her own way of remembering and I worked out the problem to show her how in one case you were taking the power of another power and in the other you were multiplying two numbers raised to a power. She did not mix them up after that without self-correcting. We also covered scientific notation and working with quotations with exponents. She is still doing a great job of catching herself when she makes mistakes; I made sure to compliment her on that today. Overall it was a great session.

Both students have an upcoming quiz on Trigonometry and the Unit Circle, so we reviewed some of the content that will be covered on the quiz, such as converting between radians and degrees, and finding the opposite and adjacent sides of an angle in a right triangle. We also reviewed logarithm properties and applying them to expand or simplify expressions. We also wrapped up our Chapter 1 review. They are still missing a lot of material that they should have learned in previous courses, so we will continue to work on filling in that knowledge gap.

We completed a homework set on line integrals and vector fields. Upon completion of the homework, the student understood the material very well. However, I would recommend more practice before the next exam. We also worked on a chemistry problem set on intermolecular forces. She is starting to understand this material.

He started by reading aloud his reading homework and answering a few questions on that (he had started it earlier and really wanted to get it done). We then moved on writing numbers in standard and expanded form; then also listing out factors and finding greatest common factor - this part was pretty easy for him, but he wanted to list all the factors in his head, and kept losing track of them until we wrote them down. Lastly, we ended with 4 lengthy word problems - the very last word problem he completed so quickly! He just need to warm up a bit.

Today the student and I reviewed her chapter 2 math as she anticipates a test coming up next week. She completed and corrected problems from a packet that had been assigned - most problems were dealing with cross multiplication and ratios. We worked through other practice problems from both an in-book practice test as well as a study guide that she had taken initiative to prepare for herself. I let her know that I was very impressed with her proactive practices and that it would be sure to pay off in the long run for her. We completed a variety of word problems to do with mixtures, uniform motion and rate/ distance/ time. She is aware of the minor errors she sometimes makes when solving for variables - + and - addition and subtraction errors, dividing by the correct number on the final step of isolating a variable, etc. I encourage her to continue to stay focused and mentally check in with herself as she completes each step in complex, multi-step problems.

Our main goal for today's session was to prepare the student for her test tomorrow on linear equations. We reviewed slope-intercept form, point-slope form, and how each form is useful. We went over some practice problems and I showed her how to graph a line using the m and b values from the slope-intercept form of a line, and that she can check her work using a table of values. She knew how to use the table of values to graph a line. She also had a test from the previous year that we were able to work on as practice. We were able to get through all of the problems together, solving and discussing each one. We also discussed some test-taking skills specific for her test. For example, for application problems, I strongly encouraged her to write down the input and output variables, what they represent in the problem, and their units. This way, it is easier to understand what each part of the problem is asking, making it much easier for her to get the correct answer. By the end of the session, when I reviewed all of the material that we covered together, she was much more confident and was able to answer all of my questions.
