Session Summaries by Statistics Tutors

Statistics Tutoring review by Tashnin in Maywood, IL
The concepts that we generally covered were mixed fractions, word problems, and percentage conversions. The student over time developed a better understanding of how to solve word problems. The student was very attentive in this session, as we did more problems than the last session. I went over some basic strategies again with him like process of elimination. The wins from this session is that he has a better knowledge of how to solve a variety of problems from mixed fractions to decimal conversions.

We covered a broad range of topics related to parametric and polar equations. After defining both, we jumped into graphing such equations, talked about tangent lines, horizontal/vertical tangent lines, arc length of curves, equations of ellipses, trig substitution, and other related subjects.

Statistics Tutoring review by Kalea in Maywood, IL
Today we worked on lesson 76. This included proportions, ratio tables, simplifying expressions, calculating terms in a series, finding volume, perimeter, area, and identifying polygons. We also worked with fractions, found the equation of lines, and found the constant of direct variation. We had extra time left over that we spent working on additional problems. Online tutoring seems to be really good for the student, she seems to be grasping concepts better and is able to solve problems quicker and even explain how and why the answer is what it is.

Statistics Tutoring review by Charlene in Maywood, IL
We covered story problems relating to areas, and touched a little on ratios. The student learned to take apart the story problem one piece at time by circling key words and numbers, and making a drawing of the problem. He also underlined the questions and crossed unnecessary information. He did a great job of synthesizing what his mom had taught him and this method of putting the problem together!

Statistics Tutoring review by Alexa in Maywood, IL
The student's class has moved on to a new chapter. Now, she is being introduced to Geometry. Already, she seems to have a good grasp of these introductory geometry concepts. We worked on the very basics, complementary and supplementary angles. The student does a good job working through the geometry conceptually. However, she still has some difficulty when variables are substituted for numbers and, especially, when variables and numbers are in the same expression (i.e. the measure of angle B = 5x+2). We worked through those issues on the homework, and then I made up practice problems for her to work through. We will continue to work on solving for x by using the opposite functions. Another note, the student should work on multiplication tables of single digit numbers (i.e. 7x9) - it would be really beneficial for those problems to be more automatic for her. We'll integrate those problems into our next few sessions. In sum, I was really pleased with how well the student did with her new geometry concepts, and we will continue to work on some tougher algebraic concepts.
