Physiology Tutoring review by Tiani in Meriden, CT
We covered a review of how the student's AP bio exam went earlier this month, along with a more detailed review of the organ systems of the body and things she should know for the SAT II subject tests in biology E and M. We also talked about how her honors chemistry class is going and how to prepare for the upcoming final exam. She was very appreciative of the material covered.

For today's session, we worked some more on the acids and bases chapter. Specifically, we worked on converting between pH, pOH, concentration of hydrogen, and concentration of hydroxide. Then, we reviewed more on indicators and Ka and Kb. Then, for the early part of the session, we answered the questions in the student's textbook. She seemed very confident in solving these problems. After that, we looked to the rest of the chapter covering titration, salts, and buffer solutions. The student is still waiting to see to what subsection of this chapter she needs to cover for her exam, so we ended the session early. In general, she is doing well, and I suggested to her to keep solving a few questions each day to keep her skills sharp.

The student and I covered topics in thermochemistry, including terminology, state functions, phase changes and diagrams, and heating curves. We also practiced using q=mc(delta)T and q=m(delta)H to determine the temperature change and heat absorbed or released. I could tell that the wheels began turning in his head, and I'm excited to be working with him!

We continued to prepare for the student's final exam, which is next Wednesday. We focused on % yield, % composition, balancing equations, ideal gas laws, phase diagrams, and combustion. If he spends time every day in preparation, he will do very well. There is much more material that we will hopefully cover the next time we see each other.

Physiology Tutoring review by Audreyana in Meriden, CT
We went over kinetic molecular theory first. She was having a few problems with the overall concept, so I explained it again. After the brief explanation, she seemed to understand. We spent a good portion of our time reviewing gas laws and molar volume. The student was having a bit of trouble with the formulas and how to apply them. I showed her an easier way to remember them, and she was able to do several examples on her own. We then moved on to the physics parts of chemistry. We did not have ample time to go over this in great detail, but she seemed to understand it better than before. Overall she understands the material much better than when we began.

Physiology Tutoring review by Ellen in Meriden, CT
The student made a lot of progress with ideal gas law problems and equations. I was super happy when he derived a pre-existing gas law from the ideal gas law by his own initiative, as it shows a real understanding of the concept.
