Math Tutoring review by Niamh in Meriden, CT
The student and I reviewed antiderivatives, the chain rule, and u-substitution. In general, he was good at solving the problems. We focused on generalizing the problems, making connections, and clarifying what steps he had to take to solve the problem. Once he got underway, he made few errors, and he felt much better about the material. We covered a few different problems from each topic, and then I left him with the rest of the problems to do as many as possible. He had a quiz the next day, so we are going to check back in on how that went later this week.

Math Tutoring review by Julia in Meriden, CT
The student completed Unit 9 on Probability today by passing the Checkpoint Practice and Graded Tests of 15 questions each. The Practice test yielded a grade of 100%, and the Graded test was a 93%. He is now able to remember how to change fractions and decimals to percents and how to change percents to decimals. He has an excellent understanding of probability, including when events are dependent or independent and when to multiply probabilities (for overlapping events) or add them (for non-overlapping events). He also knows the difference between experimental and theoretical outcomes and how the Rule of Large Numbers is applied. He continues to show a positive attitude and increased ability to work independently with excellent comprehension and recall.

Math Tutoring review by Bethany in Meriden, CT
To begin, we went over their homework for the night; it was on decimals. Student 1 did very well on the homework. For the remainder of the session, she worked on word problems. Student 2 was struggling a bit with putting decimals in order from least to greatest. I gave her a strategy to help find the order and we practiced many times. By the end of the session, she was able to correctly put them in the correct order.

Math Tutoring review by Timothy in Meriden, CT
Today we covered techniques for long division and adding fractions. We also practiced multiplication tables and strategies for determining lowest common denominator. The student had some difficulty with this because he has not yet mastered multiplication. He is very positive, and we have discussed strategies for gaining confidence and increasing his skill in his trouble area. The student was instructed to practice multiplication, and we will begin our next session with practice problems as well.
