I received my Bachelor of Arts in Applied Mathematics from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. I tutor any math up through high school Pre-Calculus. My favorite subject to tutor is Algebra because its fun to work with problems that require high-level logical and analytical thinking. These are essential skills every student (and every person) can benefit from practicing. From my past experience as a private tutor, I have found that students who struggle with math often do not receive a sufficient amount of time to process, understand, and practice what they learned class. Without a firm grasp on the content, students will quickly fall behind, as math builds upon itself. Understandably then, mathematics can seem daunting; however, math is really just a shorthand language we use to describe everyday thingsone just needs to take time and care to comprehend it. As a tutor, I give students the guidance and confidence they need in their own abilities to succeed. Since education ultimately exists to liberate people from ignorance, illuminating the "why" and the "how" behind things is very important to me. Making sure that students understand the content and can apply it outside of my help is my goal, as opposed to offering memorization tricks or shortcuts simply for the sake of completion, which benefit no one in the long run. When I'm not tutoring, you'll likely find me spending time with my husband and children. I also enjoy a wide range of outdoor and energetic activities, including playing recreational sports and visiting parks.

Hi, my name is Atul, my friends call me Anton or Anthony, and I would like to be your English and/or Mathematics teacher. For the past 3 years, I have taught English to the students in Honduras, Central America. There is no greater joy than to see students getting the knowledge to be better citizens. I chose to teach because I wanted to make a difference. I remember my high school teacher Mrs. Mennon. She taught me the importance of being a good student. She took the time to offer extra help to all the students. While teaching in Copan Ruinas in Honduras, I had the opportunity to help students with a particularly difficult math concept that they were having trouble understanding. When I was able to show them a different way to approach the problem, and they got it. I knew then that I chose the right field. My teaching philosophy is simple and that is to help students learn, just the way I had the privilege to learn. In the classroom I learn from the student as much as they learn from me. I realize that each student learns in his or her unique way and that is why my teaching approach is holistic so that no student is left behind. I like to encourage a positive classroom behavior emphasizing equal interactions with students, being aware of students with special needs and establishing clear learning goals. Let us agree on a set of classroom rules together as a class. I will listen to each student as we go through this wonderful learning journey. I want to make learning fun for all students and I believe the only way I can do that is by having a positive, helping attitude. I will help you learn because I have a passion for teaching.

Two of my favorite things are learning and helping others. These two values are reflected in almost everything I do. Tutoring is an activity that mixes those two values of mine.I obtained my Bachelors Degree in English with a focus on ESL in Vietnam in 2009. After that, I taught ESL classes for four years. I enjoyed the job tremendously. English is crucial for getting a job in a country like Vietnam. More than that, speaking another language is like living another life. I was so glad that I spent part of my life helping others achieve that dream.I moved to the States with my family in 2013. Living here made me realize that I need an education, firstly to escape the rat race of low-paid labor jobs, and secondly to achieve true living, that is, learning and helping others. Only through education can I quench my thirst for knowledge and build a career that allows me to dedicate my time and money for the needy. I chose to aim for Medical schools because studying to become a physician requires a lot of subjects, natural, social sciences and humanity alike. Also, a career as a doctor would mean a lot of opportunities to contribute to the society.College was an amazing time. Taking all the required foundation courses, graduating with Distinguished Honors 4.0 GPA, joining summer international trips to Germany and England were among the highlights. I also got a tutor job for Math and Science, which has rekindled my love for teaching. I am currently attending University of St. Thomas for my Bachelors Degree in Biochemistry. I hope to still have the time for tutoring besides studying full time.Communicating and sharing knowledge is such a beautiful thing that we human are capable of. That is what tutoring is about. I am so happy to be blessed with the ability to do this job.

I am a proud graduate of the University of St. Thomas. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Literature, as well as a minor in medieval studies. I have an extensive history of teaching and tutoring, beginning in high school when I worked for three years as a tour guide for elementary school classes. While working towards my undergraduate degree, I worked as a private English tutor, and was later recommended to and hired by my university's tutorial center. I have worked with elementary aged children, middle-schoolers, high schoolers, undergraduates, and graduate students. While I am comfortable tutoring any subject under the large umbrella of "English" (ex: reading comprehension, grammar, etc) I am most passionate about helping students comprehend difficult literature and write excellent essays! My students oftentimes come to sessions stressed and anxious about their assignments, but then leave with peace of mind and confidence. I am a firm believer that encouragement and positive reinforcement inspire academic success, and nothing makes me happier than seeing my students use the tools I give them to tackle difficult assignments with enthusiasm.

I love educating and especially educating in non-traditional environments. If you spoke to my former students I am sure they would have stories to tell of outdoor classes before social distancing was a thing! I love to be a learner with my students.Growing up in the wilds of Northern Saskatchewan and for a time without power or plumbing has given me a creative and pioneering spirit.I love to unlock what motivates each student for their own success. When you "own it" you can do it! There are more than a thousand ways to learn but none of it is possible without personal ownership. You own it, and I will work hard to give whatever tools I can!Another way to say it. If you have a "why" you will be motivated for the "how".I received my formal education in several schools over several States. I began with Philosophy at Magdalene College in New Hampshire, I studied education at Eastern Michigan University, and I went on to study Theology at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota. The subjects I am passionate about are History, Writing, Philosophy, and Theology. I love seeking truth and I am in pursuit of wisdom wherever I can find it.

I have been involved with IT my entire career. First I was a software developer and software development manager for about 20 years. Then I became the Executive Director of IT at Aveda Corporation for 12 years where I oversaw all aspects of IT at Aveda including IT security and operations. I first became involved in ITIL certification and implementation with V2 in the year 2001. I became a V2 Service Manager and V3 Expert. In 2007 I started my ITIL consulting and certification instruction phase which has lasted to this day with V4. Over this time I also acquired certifications and have taught and consulted in COBIT 5, TOGAF 9.2, CISSP, CISM and Value Stream Mapping. I was fortunate to work in my software development manager years on the beginnings of Agile with a time box approach and a manufacturing company that used lean value stream mapping extensively in both manufacturing and back office applications. This has helped give me a real life experience with the LEAN, KANBAN and AGILE continual improvement approaches the ITIL 4 has adopted in their principles and in depth adoption in the exciting new V4 framework. Over the last ten years I have been a fulltime instructor and part-time consultant in the certifications I listed above. I also taught at the university level while consulting in IT for two years in Washington D.C. at Catholic University of America in their business undergraduate program teaching ITIL and database management. Over the last eight years I have been delivering certification courses in onsite workshops, hybrid courses and online formats. Over the last year had the pleasure to teach ITIL and CISSP courses with LeaderQuest and now ACI Learning. Why I teach The opportunity to teach brings many things together in myself as an experienced IT professional over these many years. In my personality there is a deep desire to learn and ask questions to understand and put together a holistic picture of things. Ove the years IT has been an opportunity for me to pursue a lifetime of learning. IT has challenged my growth as both a technician and a person working in and leading teams. IT is very people oriented. I believe that the frameworks in IT have some of the greatest insights into the nature of work and management in the whole world of knowledge on those subjects. We in IT have been challenged to bring this knowledge together to thrive is this complex environment: both personally and technically in digitally based organizations. I teach to contribute to those who want to take this challenge of making work in a digital world more human friendly, effective and efficient simultaneously. The students are the future of the world in this context and we need to thrive as a society of work to be a society maximizing the potential and happiness of our society. Come take the challenge with me!

I enjoy helping my students learn because I love seeing their sense of accomplishment when they realize they can understand a topic they once thought to be incomprehensible. I am working towards a degree in Actuarial Science with a Mathematics minor.I tutor many subjects including ACT and many levels of Math. My favorite would probably be ACT because it is a stressful test for many people and I enjoy being able to relieve a little of that stress. As a tutor I am fairly laid back and I try to help my students work their way to the correct answer. I do it this way because guiding them through their thought process instead of my own will allow them to replicate their success outside of our sessions. My interests outside of academia consist mainly of sports and volunteering.

I hold my Elementary Teaching Degree from Bemidji State University, my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction K-12 from the University of St. Thomas, and a current Minnesota Teaching License. I retired almost 3 years ago after teaching for 34 wonderful years in the public school system, teaching 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade. There were so many things that I loved about teaching that my friends wondered why I was retiring. But, I have been blessed with three grandchildren on opposite ends of the country, and if I want to have fun with them, I need to be available. This led me to spend the next four years teaching English as a Second Language online to students aged 3-16, for which I hold TSOL and TFEL certificates. I found out that genuine, meaningful relationships can be formed virtually. And this love of teaching flexibly, online, brought me to Varsity Tutors. My first love of teaching is making students feel like they can learn anything, cheering them on, and making them love learning. Students want to know that you truly care about and believe in them, and I do! While I am available to teach many subjects, and I truly love them all, reading, writing, math, and English as a Second Language are my favorites. I am passionate about teaching students to not only read, but to LOVE reading! I excel at diagnosing current reading skills, and determining what they still need to learn in order to move them to the next level. I take into consideration their fluency, accuracy, comprehension, and reading strategies that they employ, and what ones they need to practice. If you can read, you can learn anything! I love teaching math, and making reluctant math students realize their inner math genius! I understand that not all learners learn the same way. I am very willing to teach them more than one way to solve a problem and help them become an expert at the way that works for them. I love teaching writing! I was fortunate to get to train under author Beth Olshansky in the art of pictures and image making. This is such a motivating way to teach students how to write, honing all of the skills necessary, including all of the traits of good writing, while the student creates a piece to be proud of. This makes the student want to write more! It is a writing strategy that works for young and older learners alike! I enjoy filling my days with traveling, baking, reading, and playing with my grandkids. In the summer I paddleboard almost daily, and in the winter I love to snowshoe. I hope to see you soon!

I taught AP & IB Physics for six years in the late 90's, with exceptional success for my students on all AP and IB exams. I've also taught regular physics (as opposed to college prep). And I taught Algebra 1 through Calculus in rural Louisiana through the Teach For America program before I got licensed to teach physics. These and other teaching jobs involved quite a bit of one-on-one work with students.Even though I was known for guiding my students to good results on the AP and IB physics tests, that wasn't what mattered most to me. I wanted to share my excitement and love for math and physics. The most important results for me were seeing students get excited about physics, and start doing their own exploring. Test scores come and go, but attitude and enthusiasm are forever.
