Tutoring review by Haley in Naugatuck, CT
During this week's session, the student worked on her reading homework and her math. Her reading homework involved reading a passage on The Titanic and answering grammatical and inference-based questions after reading the passage. During the read-aloud, I had her use a pen as a tracking instrument for reading the text, which helped a little with the flow of reading. I'm noticing that one thing that may help with her reading is paying closer attention to punctuation and how that impacts the pace of the sentences. We then focused largely on math and used her math workbook to complete exercises in telling time, counting coins, geometry, and fractions. She completed the geometry with ease. The activities that involved telling time were the most challenging for her, so I definitely plan on bringing additional activities for next week that focus on time-telling for us to work on. I am continuously impressed by her ability to talk about what will be most helpful for her in terms of academic support and areas she would like to work on. Looking forward to next session!

Tutoring review by Liban in Naugatuck, CT
We began reviewing regression and correlation. I pretty much had to teach him the basics starting with basic definitions. I then explained to him how to interpret results/answers concerning correlation and regression. After answering his questions concerning how concepts relate to analysis testing, I then began showing him the transitions into multiple regression (the many similarities, the additional concepts, etc.). I then answered his concerns over why t statistics were used on individual parts of the regression while the entirety was scaled by an f statistic. We then watched a video on how to analyze and compute regression on the program "r". When the session ended he had a complete understanding of the concepts and felt much more comfortable with the material.

Today we reviewed for the student's exam on Friday. We covered distance, displacement, volumes of solids, and the disk and washer methods. She was very confident in all of the material. She knew how to start all of the problems and remembered all of the formulas. I'm very confident that she will do well on her test.

We worked on graphs and interpreting data within those graphs. The student had a good attitude toward the material but struggled with recalling data from the graphs. We will continue to work on this.
