French Tutoring review by Mark in Orland Park, IL
We began discussing the next chapter in the textbook, which focuses on verbal phrases. First, we looked at the verb "ir" and how to use it to form a simple future tense ("ir+a+infinitive"). After practicing "ir" and completing several exercises in the textbook, we looked at verbal phrases using the verb "tener." We then reviewed several important verbs, including "ser" and "estar." The student is demonstrating a good grasp of verb conjugations. I assigned him a few exercises in the textbook to complete before our next session on Tuesday.

French Tutoring review by Olivia in Orland Park, IL
The student was very excited today because he has raised his French grade to a B! He also has gotten 100% on some quiz retakes which is doing well not only for his grade, but also his confidence. After reviewing his quiz, we started working on his new material for the week: reflexive verb vocabulary and conjugations. We began by going over his long list of vocab words and phrases. He had a couple of worksheets for homework, and he was able to do them quite easily. He understands how to conjugate the verbs well. We finished the session by going over the new vocab again, so I quizzed him on the new words. Because there are so many, he will need to continue to study them throughout the week.

French Tutoring review by Joe in Orland Park, IL
The student worked on choosing correct past tenses, improving pronunciation, and conjugating verbs. He understands the concepts and has a great deal of vocabulary memorized. His biggest challenge, at this point, is to become more fluent in speech. He seems to have a tendency to learn visually; we worked on strategies for enhancing his auditory and tactile memory. Most importantly the student will study French out loud.

French Tutoring review by Alex in Orland Park, IL
This week we watched the French you tuber Pierre Croce, who uses really natural sounding French and speaks extremely fast. Together, we worked to pick apart some of the more complicated bits of what he said, and learned several useful structures in French such as "Soit + a conditional statement". Naturally on the first viewing of the video without any context, it was difficult for her to pick up much of what was said, but as we rewatched each part a few times, she understood more and more. Her comprehension is getting much better, but she still struggles with expressing herself a lot, because there are a great many ways to get across what you mean in French (expressions, slang, sentence structures) that seem bizarre to non-natives. We will continue to practice what we have been, much of which involves me prompting her to explain something in French, and helping her with what she is trying to say as she goes.
