I am a graduate student at Oregon Health & Science University obtaining my degree in Environmental Science & Engineering. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Willamette University in Biology with minors in Physics and Spanish. I have taught several basic biology and aquatic microbiology classes to middle and high schoolers, as well as mentored high school and undergraduate interns on independent research projects. I had the opportunity of a lifetime when I taught English through private companies in Japan (all ages, 2007-2010). My interest in assisting speakers of other languages began in 2006-2007, as I tutored English language through Berlitz Languages, Inc. During that time, I was also employed by Caltech (Pasadena, CA) helping international postdoctoral scholars adapt to a new life in the United States.With a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (1999) my love of writing has never abandoned me. I greatly enjoy helping students of every age expand their writing skills. From elementary classroom work in Klamath Public Schools and Salem-Keizer Public Schools (2012-2017) to scoring high school student writing samples at Greater Albany Public Schools (2013-2014) to freelance editing post-graduate articles for submission to scientific journals (2005-2007) I've found pride in supporting writers with each assignment. I appreciate that writing can be a struggle, so I strive to help each student develop self-efficacy. Beyond the needs of any particular assignment, we can focus on strengthening the particular elements of writing, one at a time.

I am a recent graduate from Willamette University, with a BA in Biology and Spanish and a minor in Chemistry. My teaching experience began as a teacher of horseback riding and horse trainer, where I learned how to work with a wide variety of learning styles. I also studied abroad in Panamawhere I researched poison dart frog behaviorand Spain, in addition to working in a bilingual English/Spanish elementary classroom. In the journey to learn Spanish myself, I have made many connections that make learning new languages more understandable and less daunting. I love working through the subtle adjustments which can make an essay powerful, and stepping through the processes of math and algebra. When not in an academic setting, I'm known as a lover of animals, books, and physical activity.

I am a graduate of Willamette University, where I earned my BA in Psychology with a minor in Mathematics. Currently, I am preparing for the Actuarial Science certification exams by taking classes at Arizona State University. I tutored students from a variety of academic backgrounds at my previous university, primarily in quantitative methods like Applied Statistics. Although Statistics is my favorite subject to tutor, I also very much enjoy other math topics like Calculus and Algebra, as well as writing and Psychology. I take a foundational approach to tutoring by focusing on the individual building blocks of a topic; I identify which of those building blocks a student is comfortable with and which we should work on together. Once those building blocks are established, we can more easily transition into the next levels of the topic. Most importantly, I work with a student to create a plan tailored to their individual learning style and needs. When I am not studying or tutoring, I like to spend my time reading, hiking, exploring the sights in Arizona, traveling, and visiting my family back home in the Pacific Northwest!

Hi, my name is Chris Ketchum. Originally from Moscow, Idaho, I graduated from Willamette University May 2015, where I majored in English/Creative Writing. I learned a huge appreciation for education from an amazing, lifelong network of students, professors, and administrators in both public and private institutions. I believe firmly that every student is capable of learning given the attention and opportunity they deserve, and that each road of critical thinking is individual and unique. I am a graduate of Willamette University, where I majored in Economics and minored in History and Jazz Performance. Since graduating, I have traveled extensively throughout Europe, and spent the past year in Paris as a teaching assistant in a high school. I have experience tutoring kids and adults in a variety of tutoring centers online and in person in subjects including French, reading and writing, and math. I have also worked as a private saxophone teacher. I am most passionate about tutoring French, reading, and writing. I spend most of my spare time playing music, specifically jazz, but I also love to go rock climbing or just sit down with a good novel or book of poems.

I am deeply interested in History, Literature, and Politics. Upon the completion of my graduate work, I hope to earn a commission as a JAG officer in the Armed Forces. In high school, I was a 3 sport Varsity Athlete captaining my football team freshman and senior years, as well as being a wrestler and track runner. I played Rugby for Gonzaga during my undergraduate career, and many of my hobbies today involve athletics and the outdoors such as hiking and skiing.
