I was born and raised in San Jose, CA. I moved to Portland, Oregon to obtain my Bachelor's of Arts in English at Concordia University. I have always had a strong personal mission to improve the lives of others, so I went to Willamette University, College of Law to become a lawyer. I practiced family law and estate planning for the over three years. Throughout my college years, I have tutored my fellow students as well as younger grade school students in various subjects. My main passion has revolved around literature and writing. I strongly believe that education is the key to success.

I am a graduate student at Oregon Health & Science University obtaining my degree in Environmental Science & Engineering. I received my Bachelor of Arts from Willamette University in Biology with minors in Physics and Spanish. I have taught several basic biology and aquatic microbiology classes to middle and high schoolers, as well as mentored high school and undergraduate interns on independent research projects. Microbiology is my favorite subject to tutor, as it is always a joy to see students discover this unseen world that exists right under our nose! My teaching philosophy is to present the subject to my students in a way that places the knowledge into a context that is relevant for them and to lead them through complex concepts with real world examples. In my free time, I like being active and enjoying all that Oregon has to offer, whether it be running, swimming, hiking, or camping with my dogs and am currently training for my first triathlon!

My approach to teaching is student-centered. I work with each student's challenges and strengths in order to devise best approaches to goal-specific lessons. It's important to me that lessons are both enjoyable and clearly relevant to academic targets. My teaching style is warm, personable and creative.I have a long and varied work history in teaching. I taught as an Elementary Classroom Teacher (mostly K-2) for five years, including my Master of Arts in Education (Willamette University, 2012). Prior to entering the Master's program, I developed skills in public schools for two years as a Classroom Aide (primarily leading reading groups).My experience as Instructor of English to Speaker of Other Languages includes teaching English to adult ESL students (Linn Benton Community College) and teenagers (Azumano International) in 2014. I had the opportunity of a lifetime when I taught English through private companies in Japan (all ages, 2007-2010). My interest in assisting speakers of other languages began in 2006-2007, as I tutored English language through Berlitz Languages, Inc. During that time, I was also employed by Caltech (Pasadena, CA) helping international postdoctoral scholars adapt to a new life in the United States.With a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism (1999) my love of writing has never abandoned me. I greatly enjoy helping students of every age expand their writing skills. From elementary classroom work in Klamath Public Schools and Salem-Keizer Public Schools (2012-2017) to scoring high school student writing samples at Greater Albany Public Schools (2013-2014) to freelance editing post-graduate articles for submission to scientific journals (2005-2007) I've found pride in supporting writers with each assignment. I appreciate that writing can be a struggle, so I strive to help each student develop self-efficacy. Beyond the needs of any particular assignment, we can focus on strengthening the particular elements of writing, one at a time.

Comfort is key. If a student isn't comfortable enough to ask for clarification, they won't learn to their fullest potential.I've formally learned Latin for 3 years, French for 4 years, and Spanish for 7 years. With all my time as a student, I've been in the situation where I was too afraid to ask questions, lest I look a little dumb in front of my teacher and peers. This is why, during the last three years up to the present, as a tutor I focus primarily on a welcoming environment. If you are comfortable with your surroundings and with your tutor, you can more easily learn any language!I earned my B.A. from Willamette University in Spanish, French, and Anthropology. Because linguistics is my passion, I became a tutor so I can help students improve in the language they are studying, whether it's for a language requirement or it's for their own understanding and comprehension in communicatin in the language.I tutor Spanish, French, Latin, and ESL to almost any level. This includes those who are currently taking language learning courses, or those who want to learn a language in their free time! I can help with your curriculum (explaining textbooks, homework, essays, etc.) and/or make lesson plans specific to your needs.I have the most experience aiding young adults. I'm happy to work with middle school levels and upward. My tutoring style emphasizes grammar first - because of this, I usually do not practice with younger children in an immersion-style process, though I do, very much, encourage it. In 2013, I graduated from Gonzaga University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and a minor in French with a focus on Geopolitical History. Since graduation, I have been enrolled in the JD/MBA program at Willamette University College of Law, as well as Willamette's Atkinson Graduate School of Management. I have always loved helping my teammates and classmates learn and understand any issue we happen upon, from French conjugation to the economic shortfalls of the former Soviet Union. I am deeply interested in History, Literature, and Politics. Upon the completion of my graduate work, I hope to earn a commission as a JAG officer in the Armed Forces. In high school, I was a 3 sport Varsity Athlete captaining my football team freshman and senior years, as well as being a wrestler and track runner. I played Rugby for Gonzaga during my undergraduate career, and many of my hobbies today involve athletics and the outdoors such as hiking and skiing.
