Chemistry Tutoring review by Srdjan in South Jordan, UT
This was the last session of the semester. The student and I worked on concepts and book problems involving reaction energy and enthalpy, calculating change in enthalpy using Hess's law, bond energies, and enthalpies of formation. We also worked on kinetic theory of gases concepts, and applying the ideal gas law, and a little bit about partial pressures and mole fractions.

Chemistry Tutoring review by Ian in South Jordan, UT
This week, we focused on mole problems. I had sent the student a few extra problems during the week, which we solved in addition to some homework problems on empirical formulas. He had trouble at first, but he seems to be slowly understanding how moles work with practice. This is important because it serves as a foundation for pretty much the rest of the year. He also mentioned that he will start writing his own notes in class, which will help him retain material. He almost has his polyatomic anions down as well.

Chemistry Tutoring review by Matthew in South Jordan, UT
Today the student and I briefly discussed quantum mechanics and how to calculate energy when given frequency or wavelength. A proper understanding of the electromagnetic spectrum is paramount to solving these problems. Not only did the student and I focus on these concepts, we also practiced using scientific notation to solve problems very easily. As always, I look forward to working with the student again soon!

Chemistry Tutoring review by Samantha in South Jordan, UT
Today the student and I focused all of our energy on the applications of Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation. At first, she would be hindered by the presence of more than one unknown variable. However, when I had her continue to write out her equations, she would find ways to "cancel out" variables or "plug in" new equations or variables where needed. Her homework before we meet next is to ask her professor for wording clarification in questions #4 and 11.

Chemistry Tutoring review by Nick in South Jordan, UT
Today the student and I mostly worked on naming acids and polarity. We also worked through a long list of fill-in-the-blank and multiple-choice questions. Further, we did some geometry problems that she wanted to work on.

Chemistry Tutoring review by Taariq in South Jordan, UT
Today the student worked on his homework dealing with finding specific heats of different substances, and calculating heat of fusion and heat of vaporization. He was given the formulas to find all three things, given other constants such as mass, change in temperature, and heat absorbed or released. He was able to work though all of the problems, and the problems varied as to what he had to solve for. Once he knew what he was solving for, it was easy for him to plug numbers into his calculator and get the correct answer. I was able to help him figure out what he was solving for, and he got more comfortable with that as he worked through more problems.
