As a dedicated tutor with a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wyoming, I have over 2 years of experience guiding students in subjects like Algebra, AP Calculus, and High School Chemistry. My teaching philosophy focuses on cultivating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel empowered to tackle challenging concepts. I am passionate about inspiring curiosity and critical thinking through interactive problem-solving activities tailored to each student's unique needs. My goal is not only to help students master the material but also to instill a lasting enthusiasm for learning that extends beyond the classroom.

I am a recent MBA grad who has experience working in business and public policy. I have written at a professional level and have experience doing economic research.
As a student, I always struggled with learning from just visual or auditory methods. I learned best utilizing a hands-on method of learning. As a tutor, I strive to use this same hands-on method of teaching to further commit lessons to memory for students. I have spent 2 years substitute teaching for a school district, and have spent the last 5 years helping children meet developmental milestones as an Occupational Therapy Assistant/teaching role for a day camp and home health. I firmly believe that all people are capable of learning extraordinary amounts of knowledge, however it is how the knowledge is delivered and that each person learns in their own way. As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, I have learned how to help people recognize how they learn information and provide strategies to help navigate learning new information and maintaining old information. It is my mission to strive to provide a learning/teaching method that is tailored to each student and their unique abilities.
I have PhD in Mathematics from University of Wyoming, USA. I have been teaching mathematics for 15 years in University of Wyoming, WY, St. Cloud State University, MN and SLIIT, Sri Lanka. Mathematics can be a difficult subject for any student. It's nothing to be afraid of. You need to invest some time in understanding the concepts, and practising it. It's also helpful to learn to enjoy it. There is a beauty and fan part as well in this subject. Learning mathematics can be more productive and easier with the help of a tutor. I am experienced in tutoring College Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus I.II,III, Finite Math, Business Math, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and Statistics.

Teaching is my passion as I have studied for many years to receive my B.S. in Language Arts Education and my B.A. in Second Language Studies: Spanish. I have my Masters of English: Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Wyoming. Currently I am a World Literature teaching in Minneapolis, MN. I love interacting with students in a fun and creative way so that the lesson sticks with them.
I have just defended my master's thesis on social behavior in a species of bird called the Golden-winged Manakin (a relative of the "Moonwalking Bird" on YouTube). Through my master's program, I have three years of experience as a teaching assistant. I've taught freshman-level biology and zoology labs and held office hours to help students with population ecology classwork.I think that the best ways to learn new material involve tackling concepts and the connections between them from different angles. I try to help students by presenting the material from different sides and letting them turn it around in their head and see it different ways. I've found this approach helpful both in teaching and in my own studying. I love teaching and learning, and I'm excited to help you do well in your own academic career!
I am an easy-going person who enjoys learning new things. I started my career as a researcher. During graduate school and then post-graduate work, I studied many different aspects of synthetic organic chemistry and worked on a number of different projects. I joined the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center in late 1996 and worked in a drug design and development lab for 11 years. I worked a few years in a small start-up and then became a high school teacher and that is where I am currently.I enjoy outdoor activities like hunting and fishing, archery, shooting sports and motorcycles. I make my own bows and I love to read: Mostly fiction but some nonfiction from time to time.
I chose teaching as my career because of my love of young people and my desire to inspire and encourage them to be the best they can be. I still have that love and desire today!I have taught for a number of years; teaching every grade from pre K through seniors in high school. All of my experiences have made me a caring, patient, understanding, knowledgeable teacher who breaks concepts into easy to understand chunks and makes learning fun and meaningful.I teach using a variety of methods to help students learn. These include singing, doing hands on work, inquiry based methods , working with models, and showing connections with previous knowledge. The greatest compliments that I have gotten as a teacher are: "...you really care about us", "...you make learning easy and fun", "...you help us understand why and how instead of just helping us get the answers", and "...you are so patient and always make us feel like we are smart and capable".In my spare time, I love being with my family. I also enjoy spending time outside doing all sorts of sports...snow skiing, water skiing, kayaking, hiking, biking, and playing tennis. I also love to make things out of wood!I am confident that with my experience and knowledge, I can help you achieve success in whatever subject poses a challenge for you.I look forward to working with you!

I recognize that each student has unique strengths, and I tailor my approach to meet their individual needs, helping them achieve academic success while building confidence in their abilities. My commitment to education is driven by the joy of seeing students thrive and develop a genuine interest in the subject.
I received a BA in Spanish from the University of North Texas with a minor in Music and I received a Master's in Spanish from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, where I worked as a Spanish teacher, translator and guest lecturer. During my time in graduate school, I also worked for the University Writing Center as an ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor to international students. When I graduated in 2013, I continued teaching ESL to adult learners at Austin Community College before moving to Dallas this year. While I am most qualified to teach Spanish and English, I have over ten years of experience teaching and tutoring students of all ages in a variety of subjects. While obtaining my BA, I had the opportunity to study in Spain, where I also held regular ESL tutoring sessions for a family and a businessman, and I was able to study ethnomusicology in Ghana, where I volunteered at a local elementary school tutoring students in English. After completing my undergraduate degree, I received my ESL certification from Seattle University and was soon offered a job in Hungary, where I taught ESL to middle school students. After returning to the US, I continued teaching in my hometown of Austin, Texas while also pursuing my other passion, music. I believe students learn best when they are motivated by something that interests them. One of my strategies for kindling interest among students is to encourage students to make connections with their peers and the wider world by employing student-centered learning techniques. In addition to teaching, I am a visual artist and a musician. In my free time, I spend a lot of time outdoors, riding my bike and hiking.
I received my Bachelors Degree from the University of Wyoming and my Masters Degree in Education Administration from California State University Dominguez Hills. I own teaching certifications in California and Texas. I am licensed to teach elementary education, math, and social studies. Please, do not be impressed with my credentials. Believe me- I am a regular guy who, at one time, struggled in class. With help from coaches and mentors, I was able to succeed. Yes, I needed help. I deeply understand what it is like when the material goes over a student's head. It went over my head more times than I am willing to count. I was so afraid to ask questions. After all, embarrassment is real. That is precisely why it is so priceless to learn from a person who has been in your shoes. Please, ask me the "dumb" questions and I'll answer them with a smile. :) I am passionate about teaching students math in traditional ways as well as non-traditional ways. We can get it done! Each and every one of us learns differently and I am here to help you!
