I am a graduate of both Loyola University Maryland and Fordham University. At Loyola, I earned my Bachelor's degree in History and Spanish. I studied numerous aspects of World History and focused my thesis on Medieval Spain. I earned my Master's from Fordham in Medieval Studies, with concentrations in History and Islamic Studies. After earning my Master's, I worked in Spain as an English Teaching Assistant for a bilingual high school in Madrid over the past academic year. I had the privilege to lead classes in various subjects, namely English, History, and Art, while also giving students one-on-one attention to help with particular difficulties they were having in English. My tutoring experience began as a peer tutor at Loyola, where I tutored History and Spanish. In Spain I tutored students, teachers, and parents in English. My favorite subjects to tutor are Spanish and History because they are essential for the development of communicative and analytic skills, which are essential for success in university and graduate level studies.During my lessons, I effectively collaborate with my students to discover their learning tendencies and habits so that they can quickly develop a strong understanding of the subject based on their strengths. My lessons are filled with discussion and dialogue in order that my students do not become bored with the material, but remain engaged and do not feel like they are being lectured. My goal in tutoring is to ensure that my students become motivated to constantly improve themselves; in doing so, they will develop a lifelong love of learning and a drive to succeed in any aspect of life.Aside from teaching, I am an avid sports fan, particularly of football, baseball, soccer, and golf. I also enjoy traveling, having done so extensively throughout Spain and other places in Europe, such as Rome, Paris, and Germany. There is nothing quite like speaking the native language (whether it's Spanish or broken French, Italian, and German) and experiencing the architecture, food, art, and music of all these places far away from home. These experiences have reinforced my appreciation for History and Spanish, as well as for the diversity of the world in which we live.

Conversational Spanish Tutor • +5 Subjects
I migrated from Peru to America in the 80’s not knowing any English and realized the importance of being bilingual. After taking English classes and a lot of self study, I learned enough of the language to enroll in college. I got my bachelor and master’s degree in Spanish at Brooklyn College and tutoring my fellow classmates helped me pay for my tuition. Since then, I worked as a part time Spanish substitute teacher and was promoted to a full time teacher in public schools in Brooklyn. In 2013 my hard work paid off when my students got a 100 percent pass rate in their Spanish Lote Exam (the new name for Regents in Foreign Language). While I was teaching, I continued to tutor students who needed help in Spanish of all ages and grades. I have a particular student of Russian decent who I’ve been tutoring since she was in Junior High. When she went to high school, she took Spanish as her language of choice. Her teacher even thought she was Spanish because she spoke the language very well. At the present moment, I am still tutoring her in Spanish but this time, her lessons are more conversational. Due to my struggles as an immigrant, I tell all my students that it’s very important to go to college and get their education because it is something that no one can take away form you. It’s their ticket to their freedom and independence. In my spare time I practice yoga, spend time with my daughters and read books.

I have been a highly skilled middle school science teacher for the past three years in New York City public schools. This experience enables much familiarity with the standards and curriculums that some students may need help with in all subject areas. After tutoring some students I realized that they performed better in numerous tasks since they gained confidence and skills from our sessions. I believe that working one-on-one could develop better understanding of a subject since the tutor and student will work to meet specific goals with strengths and weaknesses kept in mind.

Education has always been a very important factor of prosperity of different countries throughout the world. That is why I believe that education is the most important sphere of peoples activity, because it stores peoples knowledge.Education is the bridge between past achievements and the future ones. Moreover, education is the only way for the people to move forward, because it is the background for science developing, hence its a highway to new discoveries and personal developing. Today we face the world of rapid changes, requiring even more knowledge than it used before. We need to learn new things during the entire life not to fall behind of the progress.I understood the crucial importance of education in high school. Being inspired by my teachers, I decided to devote my life to teaching, helping others learn a new language and developing new techniques of learning, which could be helpful for the students all over the world. As a College Admission Counselor I believe this every time I help someone.

I have studied in Argentina, in a bilingual English - Spanish School for primary and secondary students. After that, I continued my education as an Electronics Engineer at the University of Buenos Aires. Then, I trained as an MBA at the University of Salvador. I relocated to Germany for almost five years and then came back to the US. I have helped tutor students in high school, as well as classmates, family and friends. All of these students have received good grades as a result of the tutoring. Spanish, Math and Physics are my subjects of choice, and I believe the overall concepts of the subjects are the most important part to teach. In this way, you can discover more and will not have to depend on your memory. In my spare time, I enjoy hi-tech gadgets, computers, tennis, and know a lot about photography and optics.

I am a current Masters Candidate at Columbia University, Teachers College in Communication Sciences and Disorders. I have been tutoring math, English, test prep, and foreign languages for over ten years.I graduated with honors from Barnard College with a degree in Political Economy. During college, I also studied Spanish literature, Hindi, and Urdu, and received the prestigious Department of State Critical Language Scholarship for Urdu study in Lucknow, India. During that time, I taught SAT critical reading and writing at East Harlem Tutorial, raising average scores by over 200 points for her students. I was then hired by the Spanish government to teach English language through content classes in trilingual Catalan focused elementary and high schools. While in Spain, I also developed and taught curriculum for private children and adult classes. I then became head soft-skills trainer and curriculum developer for Anudip Foundation in Calcutta, a non-government organization aimed at teaching technology and language skills to rural Bengalis. I have been tutoring pre-numeracy through Algebra in New York for the last year, while studying communication sciences and disorder.I believe is giving students the tools to find answers to problems independently, and making the underlying logic of the problem clear. Watching students gain understanding of new concepts and break down barriers in the academic careers is the true joy I find in teaching.

10th Grade Reading Tutor • +130 Subjects
I graduated with honors from New York University with a B.F.A. in Drama. While at NYU, I took a variety of classes to satisfy my degree, from Astronomy to Greek Mythology, because I love learning. By extension, I love teaching because I enjoy helping others become passionate about knowledge. I have been a gymnastics coach, a camp counselor, and a tutor, teaching sports, arts and crafts, and school subjects to children of all ages. My favorite subjects to tutor are English and Spanish, because I love helping people to express themselves. Reading and Writing are such important tools to have in life, so I take my job as an English tutor very seriously. My goal is to not only help a student acquire the necessary skills needed to succeed, but to enjoy doing so. This is also why I tutor children of all ages in standardized test preparation. I know tests are a formidable challenge to many people, but I believe that they can be fun if a student feels prepared and confident. In my mind, a test is an opportunity to display hard work and knowledge, not something to be feared. My tutoring style is very focused, fun, and relaxed. I believe students do best when in a calm, encouraging atmosphere. I never stray from the task at hand, but I do introduce a certain level of silliness and play in my teaching. I think this makes a student more open to learning and more available to growth in a subject. My theater background has helped me learn a variety of memorization techniques that I look forward to sharing with my students. I understand that different people learn in different ways, so I always cater my tutoring to a student's personality, preferences, and needs. I enjoy getting to know a student, discovering the ways in which they learn best, and crafting a tutoring approach specifically for them. Besides teaching, I enjoy playing soccer, acting in films, singing and dancing, and, of course, reading and writing.
