Essay Editing Tutoring review by Omar in South Jordan, UT
This student and I met for the first time. We talked about the expectations for our sessions. I gave copious tips for public speaking. She took notes. Then we did enunciation exercises. We also went over a speech online. We went over highlights, then went over words she was having trouble pronouncing. Then I assigned a speech for her to perform for next week. She is hardworking and dedicated, so I am excited to work with her.

Essay Editing Tutoring review by Abby in South Jordan, UT
The student and I spent much of our time brainstorming on a writing exercise in which he imagined he was a melting snowman. The worksheet prompted him to answer such questions as how it felt to be melting, and how he knew he was melting. His answers were highly creative and imaginative, yet well within the framework of the assignment. We also took a look at what he had written so far for this coming Sunday's writing assignment, and made a few corrections. I was also able to answer a science question he had asked me at our last session.

Essay Editing Tutoring review by Alexandra in South Jordan, UT
Today was the student's first day back from consultations and assessments at his school, so it took him some time to become readjusted to focusing during the lesson; he was able to read substantial portions of several books. His reading was fairly good, though he was hesitating at words that began with "th" or that contained "th" in them. The tutor then made two lists of words which she practiced with him. Those with voiced "th" as is "there" or "mother" and those with an unvoiced "th" sound. He began to notice the difference and was able to read all the words in the list without issue when the words were isolated. Today, he also came across many words with a "ght" ending, so the tutor isolated those in a list for later use.

Essay Editing Tutoring review by Tracy in South Jordan, UT
This week for our grammar lesson we covered singular and plural nouns. We also covered matching nouns and verbs in plurality. The student did not have a struggle with the material, and he was willing and attentive. We then covered steps in preparing to write an essay, and the student was given a writing prompt to brainstorm and outline for our next session, as well as grammar exercises. I did not see any scores but the student's mother indicated earlier this week that he had received an A for the essay he submitted last week. Wins for this session include the A for the essay we covered last week and the student's having completed his grammar exercises from last week.

Essay Editing Tutoring review by Janelle in South Jordan, UT
We focused mainly on handwriting at this session. I had the student do some exercises practicing the shapes that are typical of written letters and practicing actual upper and lower case letters. He tends to trace over letters on a worksheet sloppily and too fast, so I asked him to slow down and make sure he is making sharp corners when necessary, instead of rounding them. We will continue to practice.

Essay Editing Tutoring review by Bethany in South Jordan, UT
We continued to work on improving her reading skills by starting with some short passages that are at a 6th grade level, followed by a few questions to answer about the passage. I also found vocabulary words within the passages to talk about and learn their definitions and how they were used in context. We completed 4 of these passages. We then played an online game called "short circuit". This is a game I have had her play before because it works on prefixes and suffixes of words. She has to match the prefix to the definition. This has been helping her a lot when she reads and she sees a word that is unfamiliar.
