I am recent graduate of Northern Illinois University's Philosophy Masters Program where I received a master's degree in Philosophy I also received a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Fredonia in Philosophy and Sociology. At NIU, I was employed as a Teacher's Assistant and now I currently work at the Huntington Learning Center in Geneva (Illinois) as an SAT/ACT Reading/Writing Section tutor. The main subjects I tutor are philosophy and writing. My lifelong passion is philosophy, and so I hope to eventually acquire a PhD and become a philosophy professor. At NIU, I received world-class training in analytic philosophy. My areas of expertise in philosophy are philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, and metaphysics. However, I am able to tutor any core subject in analytic philosophy (e.g. ethics, epistemology, history of philosophy, etc.). I believe that one of the most important skills for any student to hone is their writing ability. A large part of my philosophical training was learning how to write complex and technical arguments clearly. As a TA, I worked one-on-one with many students helping each improve their essay assignments and their writing skills in general. With my training, I can help make your writing clear, persuasive, and yet still interesting to read. Though I can help improve any form of writing, argumentative/thesis style essays are my specialty. My focus when working with students on writing is not just on improving specific assignments. They must be well-educated so that they can become successful problem solvers and decision makers. As a tutor, I know that every student has their own learning style and it is important that we adapt to whichever way is easiest for them to understand the subject matter. I tutor Spanish and Mathematics. I truly enjoy teaching both of these subjects because I consider them both languages. I have loved math my whole life, and I hope to share that love for the subject with my students. As a native Spanish speaker, I believe it is important to become fluent in a second language, particularly in the United States. My hobbies include traveling, music, and simply being in nature.

In 2014, my husband and I decided to move back home and pursue experiences. I dabbled in the literary world and then soon after became an Assistant Director of an after school program. Missing my comfort zone, I found my way back into the classroom. I taught middle school Writing at a high-paced charter school for a year. With my upbeat and positive demeanor, I bring a fresh, new approach to English that will make even the most mundane concepts more interesting.

During and prior to my time at UCF, I have worked with music students of all ages, helping them gain insight into technique and practice methods, and volunteered time during high school to acting as a tutor for those struggling in academic subjects. In my time acting as an academic tutor, I have found that I most enjoy assisting students struggling with English and math. With all subjects, but especially in regards to these, I often find that students know more than they believe they do. My aim in teaching is to help students take ownership and pride in what they do well, and begin to use this confidence to establish responsibility for their own learning that will advance their knowledge beyond a classroom setting. I believe that the more control students find they have over their own learning, the more successful they will be. In my spare time I enjoy all sorts of films and TV shows, and doing research for social justice advocacy.
