Hello, my name is Michael. I am currently a medical student at Virginia Commonwealth University. This is my last year and I will be graduating in a couple of months. I have a lot of free time now, so I decided to start tutoring again. I feel comfortable teaching all ages, but I have the most experience with college level courses.

I studied abroad with the Rome Study Program in 2013, where I delved into Italian language, art, history and of course, food! While pursuing two degrees, I was in the leadership of the Creative Arts & Theatre Organization within the UT Austin Student Unions, There, I not only performed in nearly twenty shows, but also seized the opportunity to direct, compose, and play piano in an original full-scale musical! My involvement in theatrical leadership has developed into my love of teaching, the career I am currently pursuing today. As an educator, my belief is that all students should be pushed to their highest potential in a way that caters to their already expansive list of gifts and talents. The intensity of which I care for my student's success entails that I provide a dynamic, vibrant, and encouraging energy for my students, especially in the fields of college admissions essays, SAT/ACT prep, and AP test prep. I recently graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor's of Science in biological sciences. I excelled in the fields of chemistry and physics while in school, and developed a love of all things science. While in college, I often times enjoyed studying with my peers and loved to explain any topics or problems that they had on the material. I am currently working on applying back to school to get my masters in teaching, with the hopes of teaching high school chemistry and physics. My hobbies include cycling, hiking, backpacking, and reading. This past summer, I completed a 4,300 mile self-supported cross country bicycle trip; which I view to be my greatest accomplishment. I believe that I am very patient, kind, and willing to work as hard as I can to make sure that my students not only understand the material, but develop an appreciation for the sciences; as my past teachers have done for me. I'm an adamant believer in that there's always more to learn, and I hope that I can instill the curiosity, wonder, and interest I have developed in my studies. I will do everything that I can to make sure my students leave each session with more knowledge and a better understanding of the material than at the start of the session, and will work as hard and as long as I have to make sure that my students completely understand everything they struggled with in the past.

I graduated from Noble and Greenough School in 2011 with Highest Distinction. I then attended Harvard University where I played for the Varsity Women's Soccer team for 3 years, majored in Neurobiology and minored in Global Health and Health Policy, graduating in 2015 with magna cum laude honors. I will continue my dream of becoming a doctor this summer at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA after receiving a full merit scholarship. With the medical school application process fresh in my mind, I hope to tutor students trying to score higher on the MCAT, on which I scored in the 96th percentile. Most recently, I spent the summer working with gifted students from all over the county at a gifted camp with Duke (University) TIP. Before that, I was teaching health classes to middle and high school students in Macon.In my free time, I love to cuddle up with a good book (I'm currently reading "After Dark" by Haruki Murakami). The classes that I was a Teacher's Assistant for included Organic Chemistry and Theater. I have experience as a tutor for Binghamton's Student-Athlete Success Center where I taught History. I have developed my communication and leadership skills over many years working in Emergency Medical Services and as a Resident Assistant. As a teacher, I consider myself to be "A Guide on the Side, and not a Sage on the Stage." My role is to help my students generate answers and ideas on their own, as well as refining these ideas. I aid in the thinking process, ensuring that my students are understanding the material, and not simply memorizing it. I achieve these most often through practice problems and leading questions. I am also very flexible in my teaching style, and often adjust based on my pupils' needs.

I have taught a wide variety of students ranging to those with learning disabilities to students who are gifted. I will be tutoring middle school math, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and Trig. My favorite subject to tutor is Algebra 1. Is is the foundation of all high school and college math classes.I believe that every student has the ability to learn. Some learn at a faster pace and some take a little longer to process it. I also believe that not everyone learns the same way. It is my job as a tutor to figure out the best way to break things down in order for you to be successful.Outside of academics, I love watching and participating in a variety of sports.
