Hi there! My name is Rachel and I am a writer, art educator, and community event planner. I recently graduated with a B.A. in African American Studies from Wesleyan University, with a concentration in Literature and Performance.Writing and reading are more than hobbies for me. They are my passions, as well as lenses through which I learn more about myself and the world. Getting to teach other people the skills necessary to have enriching experiences with literature is an amazing opportunity to me. I do not take it for granted.During my college years, I started off as an English tutor for middle school-aged children. Within my first year of college, I became one of four student coordinators for a local afterschool program. I was in charge of developing weekly curriculum for students aged 4-14, preparing different plans-of-action for students to tackle reading comprehension and writing skills and topics. While I was sad to graduate and pass leadership of the program over, I was overjoyed to have spent such a long time doing what I love in a community that I adored.I am excited to be a part of the Varsity Tutors Team! I am a Graduate Student completing my MS in Secondary Education for English at SUNY at Albany. In May, I will have my NYS Teaching Certification. I got my BA in English at the same university, where I also double minored in Creative Writing and Film Studies. I've taught in middle and high school classrooms, and I can't wait to continue teaching here.I've learned so much about the importance of collaboration and student agency in learning. I also believe in the importance of meeting the specific needs and honoring the unique interests of each student. Every person I meet is capable of accomplishing more than they know. My job is just to help them see that for themselves through time and practice. I tutor English and Literature, and I love bringing film, television, and creativity into the classroom! I firmly believe that English and Literature are incredibly important skill sets to hone and develop since we use these skills to communicate effectively through art, academia, and even in everyday life.In my spare time, I love reading, hiking with friends, time with my dog, running, trying new foods, watching cozy Twitch streams, and playing video games.

I am a constant learner and always aim to improve myself through academics. I value perseverance and the will to learn. Just as Cheif Gusteau says "You must be imaginative, strong-hearted. You must try things that may not work, and you must not let anyone define your limits because of where you come from. Your only limit is your soul. What I say is true - anyone can cook... but only the fearless can be great."

I am a third-year student at the University of Georgia studying Biology with a Neuroscience emphasis on the pre-med track. I am passionate about learning and expanding my knowledge on subjects that I am interested in, and therefore, helping others do the same as well. Every student has potential that is waiting to be unlocked, and I am determined to help them reach their goals any way possible!

Every student is different- just because the book says there is one way to solve a problem, does not mean it is the only way. I work with students to help them with the process of 'discovery' through questioning and experimentation. Ultimately, if I've done my job correctly, you won't need me at all!

I am a graduate of Benedict College. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Child and Family Development and my teaching certification at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Since graduation, I have taught as a certified educator in North Carolina as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher, as well as children up to age 12 during summer camp activities. I am a strong believer in making learning fun and relatable. I am most passionate about teaching Math. There are just so many games you can incorporate within the subject, and it just gets me super excited when students can learn and have tons of fun at the same time!

I am currently a student at Texas A&M University, pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Molecular & Cellular Neuroscience on a pre-pharmacy track. Growing up, I was always very passionate about both the natural sciences and humanities, and would love to ignite this same passion in my students. I tutor a broad range of subjects, and work to help struggling students feel confident in topics such as Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and SAT prep. My goal is for students to feel comfortable and understood in their learning environment as they tackle individual subjects and any future academic endeavors.

For the last four years I have been teaching students of various ages, but especially those between the ages of 9 and 18. In addition, I have tutored adults who seek to learn and improve in different areas of knowledge.My favorite subjects to teach are mathematics and natural sciences, as I am passionate about helping students understand complex concepts in a simple and practical way. I also enjoy teaching programming and technology skills, as I believe they are essential in today's world. The Spanish language is one of my strengths. I would love to be able to teach others a language that seems so beautiful to me.I am passionate about helping students because I believe everyone deserves access to quality, meaningful learning. To achieve this, I try to make the learning of different subjects reach everyone in an easy and accessible way, using a variety of resources and teaching strategies.

I earned my Master's Degree in Physics at Boston University and went to Pennsylvania State University for my Bachelor of Science in Physics and minor in Mathematics. In graduate school, I was a Teaching Assistant for two years, and I had been teaching several college-level introductory or intermediate physics courses, whether they are labs, discussions or studios style. With my experience, I can ignite the passion of learning using active and engaging teaching methods. Science and technology is my favorite field and I would love to share my expertise with my students. Although Physics is a tough subject, I have gained much respect from students by helping them master physics and mathematics challenges over my teaching career. In the spare time, I often try to learn new recipe in cooking of different culture and experiment on making new cuisines.

I have been teaching math for the last 12 years in public schools. My success as a teacher comes from making students feel comfortable with math. Math is like a puzzle, it is just a matter of figuring out how the pieces go together. It always feels good when you get the pieces together and see the finished product.
