I am an educator with more than 10 years of experience in both elementary and secondary grade levels. I currently work as an Assistant Principal at an elementary school, but my teaching experience is in grades 7-12 teaching English, Writing, and Social Studies. I have also worked as a literacy coach in a K-8 school.Writing is my passion. As a student at the University of Pittsburgh, I majored in English Writing and Political Science. I worked as a column writer and editor at the student newspaper, and attended several writing workshops. My writing samples have been both published and entered in contests, and I love helping students find the joy and reward in their writing. For over a decade, I have helped students perfect their craft and become strong, succinct writers. Upon moving to Philadelphia, I found a position at CHOP as a research assistant and then transitioned to a job as an OB/GYN research coordinator at HUP. Outside of academia, I work as a barista and I skate on an adult synchronized ice skating team in Philly!

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology with a concentration in cognitive neuroscience and also minored in music with a specialty in piano performance. After graduating, I completed two years of dedicated immunology research in a pediatrics - infectious diseases laboratory. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about helping students achieve their potential on standardized tests. I want to help not only with students' short-term goals but also more distant trajectories and life goals. I am a second year law student at the University of Chicago who hails from the San Francisco Bay Area! I tutor the SAT, ESL, and Spanish. I was an AVID tutor in high school, and after college I taught an ESL class and tutored a high school student in Spanish. In law school, I am involved with the Lawyers in the Classroom program. My tutoring philosophy is based on listening to students work through problems and helping them to spot their confusions or incorrect assumptions. I believe students learn much better when they aren't simply told the right answer or right reasoning; they need to get there on their own.Outside of academia, I love to sing. I tutored over 50 hours each year in algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, biology, chemistry, and physics. My favorite subject tutor has always been any level of math through AP Calculus BC. I have also been an SAT tutor at my local test prep center in my senior year of high school. I'm currently a sophomore at Cornell University working towards a bachelor of arts in biological sciences. As a tutor, my ultimate goal is to make sure my students feel confident enough about a subject to answer questions without any help and feel prepared for their exams. I truly enjoy the tutoring process and the ability to help students find their own potential in any subject. I love to help people especially teaching them, as I am conviced we would live in a better world with a higher education level. This past year I got my Master of Sciences degree in biology from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA and am currently working at The Jackson Laboratory as a Clinical Genomic Technologist. I am also a licensed EMT and have been volunteering for two years now! My approach to tutoring has always been taking a practical approach and putting the concept in terms the student is able to understand.
