My desire to become a tutor began after a tutor of mine personally changed by life. The general perception people have of tutors is that they are just intelligent individuals with expertise in certain areas who lecture those who do not fully understand yet. In my case, my tutor helped shape the way I see tutoring and learning itself. When I was younger I personally struggled with many subjects. My tutor was very patient with me and followed my pace and asked questions that would improve my critical thinking. Most importantly, however, she never got frustrated with me no matter how many times I had to go through certain concepts. These characteristics she exhibited has guided me to develop my tutoring philosophy Learn first, teach after."Tutoring has been a significant part of my life since I started high school. I began tutoring right away in the 9th grade to help others understand and gain valuable experience. As I moved closer to senior year I began tutoring nearly every subject to become a more holistic tutor. Senior year arrived and I was thrilled for two reasons college applications and having the opportunity to tutor all grade levels in various areas of academia. Senior year was amazing and I was blessed with being the only student who had over 100 tutoring sessions that year. I credit this success to my tutoring style, which involves asking the right questions and putting myself in the tutees state of mind and never being afraid of going slower to help the individual learn. Tutoring is not about teaching what you know it is about guiding someone through a learning experience.

I have a master's degree in mathematics and over a decade of in person classroom teaching. I also have a bachelor of science degree with over a years course work in both biology and chemistry. I have hands on experience in these fields from working in both biology and chemistry laboratory settings. I worked as administrator over a home school, teaching students from Kindergarten thru 12 grade, in math, science, and language arts and developing curricular materials. I have found from my teaching experiences that students learn best from active participation in the learning process, and are often encouraged with material that is practical and meaningful. My main goal in working with students who are having problems with a particular subject matter is to simplify the material as much as needed so that a student will get to the root of their difficulties and work from there to obtain a strong foundation of the subject material. I am not rigid in my approach. If a particular manner of subject presentation is not helping a student, I will use a different method to facilitate the learning process.
I have a B.S in Biomedical Engineering from IIT and a Master's degree in Bioinformatics. I have been working as a tutor at a community college for a year and a half now, and I'm CLRA certified. I tutor pre-algebra, intermediate algebra, college algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus I, and statistics (Including statistics tests on TI83/84). My tutoring experience has been rewarding, as I have had the opportunity to meet many students with diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. It's my goal as a tutor to help students grasp the concepts and learn how to apply them, rather than simply accumulate information. I believe in students capabilities to learn and excel in math. During tutoring sessions, I do my best to break down the math problems into simpler ones, allowing the student to figure out the solution for the problem by him/herself. That way, I ensure that the student will be able to retrieve their math skills during the exams and score well.
I am a recent graduate with a Master's of Science in Medical Physiology from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin. I will be attending the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 2018, and I am excited to assist fellow students be successful in their courses. I am most passionate tutoring students in Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Psychology, and preparation for the MCAT.
I graduated from Emory University with degrees in chemistry and violin performance. I am currently working as a medical assistant in dermatology until I start medical school in the fall at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. I have always had a passion for helping others, and one way I could do so was by tutoring students so that they could achieve their full potential. During my time as an undergraduate, I was a part of the Emory Dream Project, a student-run organization that tutored at a local high school. I helped students with their algebra, trigonometry, and pre-calculus coursework. I particularly love tutoring math and physics because there are many different approaches to solving one problem. If one way does not make sense to the student, we can try another method that may click with them.
I am currently getting my bachelors at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I first discovered my innate passion for tutoring through my first job experience at Kumon: After School Math and Reading Program. This program provided me a platform to develop my tutoring skills with students of different age groups an varied background. I got a chance to work with students from ages five to high school. This opportunity also encouraged me to take on other private tutoring options. I tutored a 6th grade student on math and other skills. I have further developed this skills by tutoring many of my friends in college in math, exam prep, chemistry, biology, psychology and other subjects. All these experiences have allowed me to think of concept in new ways and create creative ways to understand them. As a tutor I hope to share some of my strategies for learning and help the student master each topic.Outside of academia, I love dancing and I am classically trained in a dance form called bharatnatyam. I also enjoy singing, traveling and reading.
I'm 20 years old and am currently a sophomore in college. I've had an interesting childhood. I was born in Vietnam and moved to Australia when I was 6 years old. Then when I was 10, my mom, brother, and I moved to Chicago. It hasn't been easily, but through hard work, my brother and I were both Valedictorians at our high school. Now, I maintain a 4.0 GPA in college and aspire to one day become a physician. Despite my past failures and shortcomings, I strive to be the best that I can be and make my mother and brother proud. I hope to help others through tutoring and at the same time, learn more about myself and become a better listener, helper, and friend.
I have a bachelor's of science in mathematics from the University of Illinois Chicago. Additionally, I've tutored for three years, have extensive experience teaching each of the following subjects: K-8 mathematics, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1-3, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Statistics, and AP Physics 1, and have a year of experience providing SAT and ACT prep (all sections). After graduating, I've continued to find fulfillment in enriching students' learning experiences by making mathematics easier to understand. During sessions, I prefer to build conceptual understanding through collaborative problem-solving exercises. I tend to employ a "guided discovery" teaching approach and adjust my pace in accordance with the student's comfort with the material.

I am a recent graduate from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In the past, I have tutored primary, secondary, and post-secondary students. My tutoring in the past has included, but not limited to the following subjects: Math (High School and College Level), Science (High School - Chemistry, Physics, Biology and College Level- Chemistry), English with a specialization in essay editing, and more. My favorite subjects to tutor are all aspects of math and science, which I enjoy. My philosophy for teaching is to discover your learning style to increase learning and improve academia. I personally love these two subjects and I want others to also understand and enjoy these subjects. I want to help students better achieve their educational goals.
I am currently a student at the University of Missouri Kansas City as a part of their 6 year direct medical program. Medicine is my passion, and I'm thrilled that we are able to interview patients in the hospital and learn from them very early on in the process. The best teachers I've ever had have been more than just adults. They were passionate about the material they taught, and that passion was carried over to me. That is the main thing I hope to show students. A passion that will help them understand the material better. One of my favorite parts of tutoring is getting to know the students' learning style and how they think. The best part is that I have just recently taken all the subjects I have listed to tutor in. The information is fresh in my mind, so I can approach the content from many different angles to help the student understand the material.Outside of school, I spend a lot of my time at Buffalo Wild Wings, hands down the best wings I have ever eaten. Consequently, I also spend a lot of my time exercising - usually swimming or weightlifting.
Each person deserves a great and meaningful education! I had such a great time earning my BA in English Literature from Butler University, as well as attaining my M.Ed. in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago. All of this was due to committed and memorable teachers! As a result, I was inspired to become an educator. As a teacher, my job is to help students tap into their incredibly unique potential. This means that I will work to help students complete their assigned material with their previously gained knowledge and current, relevant interests.Who wants to learn something that doesn't seem to matter, or is uninteresting? No one.I hope to make your tutoring experience positive, enjoyable and well worth your time.Living is learning.
I recently graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with degrees in chemical engineering and math and computer science. After a summer of relaxing, I am planning on entering medical school at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in the fall. Throughout high school and college, I have fallen in love with tutoring and seeing so many new faces in the process. I especially love to tutor in math, chemistry, MCAT, and chemical engineering topics, and have experience tutoring students of all ages - from elementary school to fellow college students. When I am not tutoring or in school, I am an avid lifter and love to bake with friends!
I am a PhD student in Biological Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago working on gene regulation. I believe teaching is an art of simplifying the obvious and I have learnt a great deal about the same by interacting with teachers and students both at the high school level with Chicago public schools and undergraduates at UIC, as I have worked in different capacities as a tutor, TA and an instructor. Every student has a personality and my teaching experience has given me the confidence of managing different personalities, a challenge that I relish and use it to fuel my future learning and that of my students. Apart from research, I enjoy improvising, acting, dancing and volunteering.
I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Spanish from Grand Valley State University! I am currently getting a Master's of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I offer tutoring in any level of Spanish and for various Psychology topics! When I was studying abroad in Spain for a semester I tutored some kids in English by helping them learn grammar and work on improving their conversational English. I also tutored basic Spanish speaking skills for a 12 week program to help people feel comfortable communicating with others in Spanish. Learning Spanish not only helps you to be more competitive for jobs, but also helps connect you with more people! I love teaching languages because it's one more way people can learn how to communicate with others in a variety of settings and locations. I love seeing the moment when people go from learning no Spanish to being able to understand even a simple sentence. That acknowledgement and realization that they have learned something new is very inspiring for me!I want to help you learn the best way that works for you. Some people are more visual learners, others more auditory, and others are more hands on. We will work together to see what works best for you!Outside of tutoring, I enjoy running and reading books to wind down after a long day!

Throughout my career, I have been teaching others how to improve one's self by reading, learning new techniques, and applying new methods.I like to teach young adults and adults in general who have being left behind and out of school for several years. Individuals who work hard and now are looking for an opportunity to advance their present conditions through education and training. I would like to guide them so that they could be able to combine their experiences and the new acquired education to articulate a vision and set concrete goals for improving their future. Because It is through education and the setting of goals and objectives that most people become empowered to continue furthering their education, professional development, and improving their lives. In addition, I want to teach and help participants develop the needed critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary to adapt to the constant changes of the social and economic conditions. This is what education and learning another language can do.
My name is Stephanie. I am a postdoctoral research assistant in Chicago with a PhD in Chemistry/Chemistry Education Research from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I have enjoyed teaching at the college level as a TA in many chemistry courses and have privately tutored high school chemistry, algebra, geometry, physics, financial literacy, and test prep (ACT, SAT, SAT Chemistry Subject Test). When I am not conducting research or tutoring, you can find me being a mentor for Science Club at the Boys and Girls Club, enjoying the outdoors, or spending time with friends or my mom.
I graduated from University of Illinois at Chicago with a M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership in Elementary Education, with middle school Social Studies and Science endorsements. I also received a B.A in history at Loyola University Chicago. Apart from whole and small-group instruction, I have also tutored students individually at school, as well as adults in ESL instruction. I tutor all the main subjects up to 8th grade, as well as high school history. I am also bilingual in Arabic and can tutor in the subject for those interested. History has always been my favorite subject, for I'm treated to an engaging story in every class. I believe in a constructivist approach to learning, and will act as a guide for the student to learn, explore and wonder. Lecturing does not engage the student in learning, and will hinder their progress, so I make it a point to provide discussion-based instruction, where the student has an active role in his/her own learning. I have an eclectic taste in music, enjoy reading and swimming, and will never say no to a friendly board game or a game of touch football.
Learning requires active involvement and attentively engaging with the material. This process can be at times frustrating and challenging, but ultimately a gratifying feeling. Opening a text book and feeling the increasing anxiety as you flip through unknown pages of what can only be viewed as a new language can repress the learning process. Nearly everyone at one point in their life feels overwhelmed and demurred about a specific subject. This feeling push someone away from learning something new and truly affect their ability to grow. I can understand this and have dealt with this in my own learning process. As an aspiring physician and an avid science lover, I am interested in not only medical science, but also ecology, evolution, biotechnology, and other related fields. I recall the difficulty of wrapping my head around specific concepts in chemistry, physics, and biology classes. My early struggles were amplified by my lackluster enthusiasm to understand why even this knowledge was relevant. Often times I would feel disconnected with what I was learning. This issue affected my foundational knowledge in sciences and it took me time to realize that without understanding the basics it becomes seemingly impossible to incur further knowledge. It is evident that many concepts are a continuum and by building upon previous knowledge can help consolidate new information. I find this as a paradigm in my learning philosophy; to thoroughly understand an essential point before moving on to the next subject. By retaining the foundational knowledge, it is much easier to apply and visit new, complex, information. Moreover, I believe learning is parceled into various tasks from listening, reading, writing, practicing and ultimately teaching to fully understand and retain new information. This is known as the ‘learning pyramid’ and can be very useful as a template.I constantly apply the ‘learning pyramid’ throughout my studies, beginning with attentive hearing at the basic level and reinforcing the subject material by reading and writing notes. After I felt confident with handling the material, group discussions can help reconsolidate the details and further solidify the major points. I truly believe that group work, used correctly, can help facilitate comprehension. This strategy was useful during my masters at Georgetown University, an accelerated one year program, which focused on physiology and biophysics aligning with the medical school curriculum. I was able to excel in the system-based modules by utilizing a steady academic focus alone and supplemented with group discussions between 3 to 4 students. During these group discussions, I realized the influence of teaching my fellow peers on improving my own interpretation. This marked the beginning of my interests in tutoring, specifically subjects that I am enthusiastic about. These include chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, pathophysiology, and other science based subjects. My fellow group members and I would teach each other the material, we would practice explaining out individual thought process. This method enabled an active learning process with an emphasis on the main point plus important details. As a tutor, I would emphasize the major points and push my student to ask questions, be attentive, and then be able to successfully teach me. The learning process can be difficult at times, as I explained earlier, can push a student away from an interesting and exciting subject. My focus would be to improve the student’s knowledge about the topic by discussing why it is important and highlighting potential benefits of understanding the material. By enticing a student and tapping into their enthusiasm can evolve into a new found educational motivation. The best experience I can wish for is a student to learn something new, but also to apply learning strategies to other subjects and became a better academic scholar.
I earned both my BA and my MA in French and Francophone Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I tutored various subjects as a volunteer with the NBC Homework Hotline, and I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to teach French for 2 years while earning my Master's. I am very passionate about learning and teaching foreign languages, and I hope to share that with my students. In my experience students particularly enjoy (and benefit from) learning and exploring new cultures while learning the language itself. As the child of a teacher I am a strong believer in the importance of education and all of the opportunities it offers to students. I finished my MA in May with a thesis on French fairy tales, but I also enjoy reading as much as I can, spending time with my family, and neighborhood trivia tournaments.
I graduated from UIC with a bachelor in Biochemistry. While in college, I tutored high school students. My favorite subjects were French and chemistry, but I tutored all high school curriculum except Spanish. I will describe my teaching philosophy as " to make each training session as engaging as possible while also assisting students in developing self-study habits. The possibilities are endless when equipped with the tools to learn. " I prefer classroom where there is a blend of different teaching styles. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy traveling, eating and sleeping.
I am a junior at the University of Illinois at Chicago Honors College, where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering with a focus in cell and tissue engineering. During high school, I worked in the literacy center, where I tutored fellow classmates and helped them with any classes that they were having trouble with. I enjoy tutoring because I acknowledge the two-way nature of it. Not only does tutoring help a tutee learn certain material, it also helps me master some old concepts. While I tutor a variety of subjects, one of my favorites is mathematics. I love teaching this subject because its concrete and builds problem-solving skills. I think that education is one of the most important facets of life since it directly shapes our future. With this in mind, I attempt to teach my students to the best of my ability. During my free time, I enjoy biking, playing the violin, and watching sports.
I am a graduate of University of Illinois in Chicago with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. My passion is helping students grow to love to learn, in whatever way I can. I began my journey by volunteering for Working in the Schools, a reading-focused non profit in Chicago. I worked with kids K-5, from read-alouds to reading interventions. I also student taught at Ravenswood Elementary, working with a diverse learning population in the 4th grade. I love finding ways how to make learning accessible for everyone by using a variety of methods and activities. Finally, the past year I tutored a small group of third graders as they remotely learned in the local public school. I created a learning environment in their homes and provided supplementary materials to not only support their learning, but also our mental health, as we navigated a new way of learning together. I hope I can help you find your own way of learning!

Since I began my elementary school teaching career, I have been passionately committed to inspiring students' interest in learning, maximizing individual student performance and growth, and empowering students' self-confidence and worth. My passion for teaching has taught me the value of patience, understanding, and flexibility. The students with whom I have worked have shown me that these qualities are necessary for having a healthy and successful relationship with them. I work very closely with each student. I consciously provide individualized support for academics as well as their personal nurturing and the praises they require for continued encouragement. I have provided effective classroom management, creative lesson plans, and have maintained proficient and distinguished ratings on evaluations. As an outstanding teacher, it is vital to stay connected and collaborate with all parties involved (e.g. clinicians, staff, and families) to ensure success for each student. I believe it is important to welcome assistance from families to encourage the success of each student, both inside and outside of the classroom. My philosophy begins with recognizing each child as an individual with special abilities and talents. It is my responsibility as an educator to create and adapt lessons and an environment that draw out and develop the student's abilities. I believe we are all lifelong learners and it is my desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
I am a graduate from University of Illinois at Chicago. I recently received my Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience with a minor in Chemistry. Throughout my undergraduate years, I have extensively taken an active role in a broad range of research projects including public health and biochemistry. Given my background, I am passionate about science and public health. In my experience helping students struggling with science courses, I have learned that a lot of times constructing the basics about a given topic makes it easier to learn complex topics. Everyone has a different learning technique, and I am here to help.
I am a graduate of The Monmouth College where I received a Bachelor's of Arts in Biochemistry. Currently, I attend The University of Illinois at Chicago in pursuit of my Doctor of Pharmacy. While at Monmouth I was involved in various tutoring/teaching positions. I served as the supplemental instructor of analytical chemistry, teaching assistant for general chemistry, and cadaver dissection team member. Through the experience of being a student and a tutor, I have learned the unique challenges the science student encounters. As a student athlete in both high school and college, I understand the difficulties of time management and the importance of maintaining success in the classroom. Attending a small college allowed my passion for biology and chemistry to flourish through the close relationships I made with my peers and professors. I bring this hands-on approach I was given in my undergrad to my students by pinpointing their exact needs to ensure material is not just memorized, but understood. Outside of my science pursuits I enjoy reading, hiking, and exploring my city of Chicago.
Hello! I am currently a fourth year medical student in Chicago. I attended the University of Notre Dame for undergrad, where I was a double major in Chinese and pre-medicine. I received my Master of Arts in Mathematics from Indiana University, Bloomington, and my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Illinois, Urbana. I have 6 years of full-time, community college teaching experience, as well as extensive experience in tutoring, both online and in-person. I tutor mathematics exclusively, as I have always been very passionate about the subject. I am an enthusiastic tutor, always striving to help students master their course content and ultimately be successful in their coursework while enjoying the learning process; beyond that, I emphasize to my students the importance of the critical thinking and logical reasoning skills obtained from the study of mathematics, as well as the many applications of math and the inherent beauty of the subject. I strongly believe that education is crucial in order for society to advance, which is a large part of why I chose a career in education. In my spare time, I enjoy playing classical piano, taking in the natural beauty of the outdoors (particularly by riding my bicycle on nearby trails when the weather allows), and reading philosophical literature to gain insights into different worldviews.

Helping students has been a passion of mine since high school. This is. because I had a couple of very passionate and enthusiastic teachers who taught me so much about life and the world and really helped to prepare me for the years after graduation. I have been an instructor and coach for many years from high school through university. I have a double bachelors degree in three different majors which are Anthropology, political science, and classics, as well as a Master's degree in Linguistics. During my studies I learned to speak Spanish and some Arabic and all of these subjects are areas I tutor in along with English and Essay writing. Also, I am applying to law school this fall to pursue a career in international human rights and immigration law and plan to teach university students in the legal field after a number of years of working in each of those areas of law. I am a firm believer in education being a means to not only make a person wiser or more intelligent but also more morally just, kind, caring and flexible in response to changes that a person may encounter in the future. My philosophy on teaching and learning is that a student can learn anything they want to so long as they put in the effort, but a knowledgable, empathetic, observant, dedicated and patient tutor will make the effort of that student much more efficient and that is what you will get with me as your tutor. Outside of Academics I am a passionate lover of nature and volunteer at the Bill Jarvis Bird sanctuary here in Lakeview Chicago as well as for the Kankakee Cultivators in Kankakee where most of my family lives.
