Hello! My name is Sharima Jackson. I am from Waukegan, Illinois. I am currently a 1st grade teacher and I love my job! I believe that all kids can learn and that there is a way to reach everyone. I am very dedicated in my works to make my students become successful.

I am passionate about helping students because I genuinly care about them and really enjoy interacting with them. I've been teaching for 22 years and I have a undergraduate degree in biology, a masters degree in teaching (Rockford University) and a masters' degree in educational leadership (AuroraUniversity). I am most passionate about teaching Spanish/English reading, phonics and science I am certified prek-12 for bilingual and ESL education and specialeducation. Even though I have not taught adults yet, I am able and interested in teaching conversational Spanish. Outside of the classroom I am caring for the animals on my farm, knitting, watching telelvision or gardening.
As a certified teacher, I have been working with students for over 8 years, both as an Elementary-level substitute and summer school educator, instructing students in grades K5 through 5. I am passionate about helping my students ignite their curiosity, expand their knowledge, and increase their fundamental academic and social skills. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in English from Rockford College (now Rockford University), graduating cum laude with honors in liberal art. I became a licensed educator after completing the Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Preparation program with Western Governors University. My tutoring focus is Elementary Reading, Phonics, and Elementary Math. Although my first love is language arts, I truly enjoy teaching math because I empathize with students who find it frustrating, and understand how to approach today's strategies and skills to help students find success. It is my belief that all students are capable of learning and all students learn differently. Tutoring gives me the opportunity to craft tasks specifically tailored to each learner. This allows the student to contribute their own knowledge and experiences, helping them feel invested in their education.
I teach because I love to continuously grow, while encouraging others to do so as well. The quality of my instruction will be calm and focusing. We will control what is controllable to us when approaching course material. Students will gain learning strategies and apply them using best practices. Trusting in process and achieving attainable goals one step at a time, students will accumulate skills in problem solving and critical thinking. Developing these consistent values will help you succeed. I have been teaching High School students for five years. My MAT was earned at Rockford University with an emphasis in Social Studies and Social Sciences. What I enjoy most about these subjects is their ability to connect root causes from the past to explain the significance of current events.
I am passionate about helping students because I experienced many difficulties as a student. I enjoy helping students overcome learning difficulties. This led me to teaching. I have been in education for over 20 years. I have taught in K-12, college, in the U.S., and abroad.I have studied education at Rockford College, Northern Illinois University, and The Ohio State University. Additionally, I have a professional degree from the University of Iowa and an associate's degree from Southern Illinois University. My degree in special education, with an emphasis on learning difficulties, makes tutoring a good fit for me. I tutor general education topics with special attention on study skills, test taking skills, and learning strategies. I also tutor the Illinois Bar Exam.I try to adapt my tutoring style to the learning style and goals of the student. I also try to build capacity and fluency along the way with proven methods and approaches.
I love languages and understand the challenges of learning English. I am a seasoned educator and curriculum writer. I'd love to help you improve your skills in reading, writing, spelling, phonics, listening, speaking, pronunciation, ESP, grammar, and syntax.
