I am a graduate of Bradley University. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Science, as well as endorsements in Middle School, Language Arts, Social Studies, and General Education, Kindergarten-9th Grade. Prior to teaching, I worked in the Social Services field as a Family Parnerships Coordinator where I planned and implemented parent/child engagement workshops and activities for families who had children from birth to 3 years of age. I also trained and tutored low-income families in self-sufficiency and life skills. Working so closely with families in their homes gave me a clear picture of the hardships and difficulties many of them face, especially as it relates to education. Parent involvement is key to a child's academic success however a parent who is worried about where their next meal is coming from, or who has no running water is more concerned about meeting those needs rather than visiting their child's teacher or helping with homework. With this in mind, I began teaching, determined to partner with these families in such a way as to direct them to community resources to help their entire family along with providing a quality education for their children. This tactic served to improve parent involvement in the classroom and the school as a whole. I am a firm believer that quality education leads to a much better quality of life. Involved parents have students who take their education seriously and ensures their academic success. Although I have taught a range of topics, I am more excited about English Language Arts and Social Studies. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, walking, rollerskating, and attending and coaching sports. I even have experience as a personal trainer for track.

I earned my Bachelor of Science from Bradley University in Peoria IL. I graduated with a degree in Statistics to become a Data Analyst. Math has always been a part of my life but not just in an academic way. I am a strong believer in the idea that numbers rule the world from finance to construction to medicine. All my closest connections from faculty and staff since middle school have been with math teachers and professors. I was the only math major in my friend group so all of my friends would come to me and ask me to help them with homework. I always found joy in helping a peer understand the work they are doing and not just giving them the answers. When I am not working I love exploring cool and exciting fields of mathematics like analysis, number theory, and chaos theory. Besides math, I love video games and messing around with my computer. When it is not freezing cold, I love to go play golf with my friends and enjoy the weather.

I have a Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance from the University of Oklahoma, a Professional Studies Diploma and Master of Music in Violin Performance and Violin Suzuki Pedagogy from the Cleveland Institute of Music, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Studies, and a Bachelor of Music Degree in Violin Performance, both from Bradley University. (Yes, I was in school a long time! Haha!)My studies as a child and adult in the Suzuki Method of violin instruction have influenced my teaching by encouraging a nurturing and positive approach to education. I have had extensive teacher training in this method as well as thorough online English as a Second Language teacher training and teaching experience from the Chinese company, VIPKid.My mother is Colombian, and my father traveled extensively throughout the world, so a love of everything international was instilled in me. I enjoy learning about other cultures and languages, and I have traveled throughout most of Europe! In addition, I was fortunate to study music and travel in Japan for almost two months and study abroad in Denmark for a full semester.I love getting to know individuals and encouraging them in whatever their goals are in learning. I have been told that I have a special gift for teaching young children and making them laugh, but I enjoy teaching students of all ages.

As a former special education teacher, I love working one-on-one with students and seeing the light in their eyes as they solve a problem. One of my favorite quotes is, "The best teachers will show you where to look but not tell you what to see." I firmly believe that empowering students and giving them the tools to be successful on their own is the best gift they can receive. Most of my experience is in high school teaching; however, I have worked with students in early intervention, preschool, kindergarten, elementary school, and middle school. I love math and English, but I have taught all subjects and am confident in all of the subjects listed on my profile. I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve your educational goals!
