I'm Shelley and I LOVE to help students learn! I am a nurse and an educator! I can take tough topics and make them easy to understand-- I helped a family member bounce back from a TWO grade-level deficit in math and reading just by teaching her some great study skills and breaking down difficult subjects using examples she could understand. Learning is for life, and educating is my passion! I'm enthusiastic, imparting fun and humor into things that one may find otherwise mundane.

I am not tutoring I enjoy exercising, especially kickboxing. I love to travel and meet people from all over the world. I also enjoy reading and spending time with friends.

I am currently a Phd candidate in History, and have been teaching History at University for four years. My teaching fields are American immigration and ethnic history, modern America, modern Europe, and world history. I have recently moved to New York from the Detroit area to research and write my doctoral dissertation. What better place to be for an immigration historian!

I am a graduate of Columbia College Chicago with a BA in interdisciplinary studies, and I've been and artist, performer, and educator in based in Chicago for 15 years. I've worked in an artistic capacity with many different groups including Chicago Artist's Month and International Children's Film Festival, as well as countless independent music and theatre performances.

I'm here to help you learn, not just to memorize or finish work for the sake of finishing it. I want to help you apply what we do in tutoring sessions to your life. I want to help give you the tools to succeed. And, of course, I want to make sure you have fun and enjoy it.

I am and what I do. It's my chance to do something meaningful and fulfilling with my life. When I see my students getting excited about learning; I feel that same excitement as though it was me as a child again. It reminds me that I have imparted knowledge into each one of my students, whom I loved.

I'm on an entirely different scale than they are. I try to relate to the student as much as I can to create a comfortable learning environment. I would ask questions to see how the student learns best. I'll also go over the current study material the student has and make sure they understand all of it.

I am a dedicated tutor with a goal to center my practice on finding the learning style of each unique learner and working to establish an effective teaching style around the specific needs of the learner. I believe in communication between the learner and the tutor, and I encourage interactive learning.

I am a tutor with Varsity Tutors specializing in writing and theatre. I have a large background in both fields, having been both previously staged and published. I attended Columbia College Chicago and graduated in 2015. Since then, I have worked hard to keep experimental theatre alive and well in the city of Chicago. I am always adapting my tutoring to the student's needs since the student is the first priority and their need to learn. I think that if the student has a different learning style, then we can adjust to the needs of the students. Since there are so many learning styles, it's important that any teacher keeps up with this for every student.
