Persuasive Writing Tutoring FAQ
It is easy to convince readers of ideas that they are already inclined to believe; far more difficult is the task of convincing a reader who does not share your ideas to adopt them. Persuasive writing is of pivotal importance for students and working professionals alike. Nevertheless, many people find the persuasive writing process to be a challenge. Learning to express your ideas in the clearest and most compelling way possible is no easy task. In fact, the less likely readers are to accept your ideas, the more important an expertly crafted persuasive piece becomes. Nearly everyone, from students in grade school to college and beyond, can benefit from the ability to convince others of their positions. To that end, nearly everyone can benefit from guidance in his or her persuasive writing skills. Thankfully, Varsity Tutors can help you connect with an affordable, convenient private tutor to help bring your persuasive writing abilities to their fullest potential.
Whether you are working on a specific persuasive writing project or are wishing to strengthen your persuasive writing skills more generally, an outstanding writing tutor is on your side. Tutors can work with you on argument structure, writing an effective thesis statement, spotting fallacies in argumentation, obeying the conventions of standard written English, employing a variety of rhetorical devices, incorporating compelling verbs and powerful adjectives, addressing objections, and using facts such as statistics and other evidence to persuade your readers.
The writing process is a dynamic one: often, any particular composition must pass through a series of drafts in its life cycle before it can arrive at its final, polished state. World-class persuasive writing tutoring can help you to take your writing project from whichever stage in the writing process it is currently into the high-quality end product you desire. Working with an outstanding tutor can vastly improve the caliber of any current writing project on which you are working, and can also help you enhance your critical and analytical reasoning skills for future writing endeavors. One-on-one persuasive writing tutoring provides an extra set of eyes that can help your writing accomplish its intended purpose: to persuade others. Your abilities as a persuasive writer and, in turn, the quality of your persuasive writing can improve at a rapid pace with the help of a personal writing tutor.

You have control over the direction of where you want each lesson to go, and can spend extra time practicing various components, as well as completely skip over areas that you understand.
When you work with a private tutor, you are working with someone who is committed to accommodating your busy schedule. He or she will be happy to conduct sessions at a time that best suits you, and can even work during nights and weekends. Furthermore, you are free to choose a study location that is most comfortable for you. Many people enjoy working in the comfort of their own home, but you can also choose to study in the library, in a booth of your favorite coffee shop, or even face-to-face online. Recent Persuasive Writing Tutoring Session Notes
We began by working through some exercises on dangling modifiers. The student used rearrangement and rewriting strategies to correct sentences in the exercises. We continued with the next stages of her persuasive essay assignment: research and outlining. She is developing skills for collecting and evaluating sources using online searches. We began talking about the structure of an outline, and the positioning of primary arguments. We will continue discussing outlines on Thursday.
The student read another 25 pages of the book between our classes and wrote notes about what happened. We had a long discussion about some of the important events and how this relates to our world today. These ideas will be important to keep in mind for the essay. We continued reading another 10 pages and completed Part One of the book. The student will try to finish the book before we meet on Tuesday.
The student and I worked on his English paper during our session. We made the revisions that his teacher suggested. Then, we found additional quotes to use as evidence for his argument. We proof-read the paper aloud twice and made any necessary grammatical or stylistic changes.
This evening the student and I read a story from his English book and discussed its meaning. He had a quiz on the story the next day, so we used the time to complete his homework about the story, and talk about its core elements such as plot and characterization. It seems that his reading comprehension is not where it should be which leads him to become lost when following the events of the story. Next week I plan to do an assessment on his reading comprehension so I can identify more specifically where the problem lies.
The student and I worked on grammar for an upcoming test. He was a little confused with subject/verb agreement in cases dealing with prepositional phrases using words like some, most, all. We practiced substituting a pronoun (he, they) for the noun to make the relationship clearer. We also polished up a review he wrote of the musical Maltilda, which he intends to use as a writing sample for a summer writing program.
The student and I took some time to get acquainted and made a "game plan" for midterms. We organized and prepared his course materials by going through old tests and quizzes. We then looked over a study guide given by his history teacher and began answering the questions he already knew. For English, we practiced vocabulary words and literary terms by using flashcards.
