I used to be a university professor for more than 25 years after earning a doctoral degree in Ecology with an emphasis on environmental microbiology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I have taught courses in biology, environmental science, ecology, and microbiology which are my favorite subjects. I can also teach plant biology since my majors in BS and MS degrees are agronomy and plant pathology. I have also extensive experience in research in the area of environmental microbiology dealing with bioremediation, wastewater treatment, and ecosystem analysis. Moreover, I was employed by a biotechnology company where I gained good experience in studying industrial microbiology and enzymes. This will be a great asset for my teaching college students as well as K-12 school students in a real-world situation. As an educator, my teaching philosophy is rooted in creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment that fosters student success, critical thinking, and scientific literacy. I believe in equipping students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and tools to excel academically and professionally, while also instilling a passion for lifelong learning and a deep appreciation for the biological natural world. More specifically, I will employ active learning (e.g., inquiry-based learning and discussion) and mentorship/support for student success in their careers. In my spare time, I enjoy learning computer programs for data analytics, reading books that enrich my life, watching movies, and exercising at the fitness club.

I am a recent college graduate who is excited to share my hard-earned knowledge with students in need of help. I majored in a Geography and Economics with an emphasis on urban studies and quantitative analysis, but the academic skills and concepts from those disciplines apply to a large number of social science fields. I think that education at its best is a collaborative experience between students and teachers to meet the students' goals, and I approach tutoring with that same mindset. I will work with students to help them define their goals and then act as a coach and mentor to help them achieve. In general, I'm a cheery, extroverted guy. I love talking to people about just anything, but Economics and my cat are my favorite topics. In my more introverted moments, I play video games, watch Netflix, and read all kinds of books. I also keep up to date on the world around me by reading the NYTimes and Wall Street Journal during the quiet moments of the day and by reading a "smart" non-fiction book every once in a while. Most of all though, I spend my time thinking about interesting problems and solutions because I am fortunate to truly love what I do.
My philosophy is that if a person wants to expand their knowledge through education, it is my desire to create an atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. I aim to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations to the classroom each day. I believe that I owe it to my students to bring consistency and warmth to my job in the hopes that I can ultimately inspire and encourage such traits in my students too.
Born in Canada and now residing in Knoxville, Tennessee, I have committed a great deal of my life to the field of materials science and engineering! Following the completion of my undergraduate in materials engineering from the University of Toronto, I accepted an offer from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville to study nuclear materials engineering at a graduate level. Through my research, I developed codes to computationally model nuclear fuel performance! I've always had a passion for learning and transferring knowledge to others through informal conversations and formal teaching environments. I'm most passionate about fundamental materials science and teaching its principles through examples relating to real life scenarios. I enjoy drawing on my background as an engineer and researcher to develop interesting lessons that are both informative, and enjoyable to participate in.

I am currently a mentor to underprivileged pre-teens and I work with an Optometrist as a Doctor's Assistant. This is a great position for me because my plan is to become an Optometrist in the next 5 years! I have tutored in the subjects of Advanced Math, Science and Physics for a program called Varsity Tutors for about 3 years. I was also a tutor for an organization called AVID, which is a college preparatory course for high school students, for about a year and I also have experience tutoring freshmen in college while leading them into a healthy-eating lifestyle. So, I have tremendous experience tutoring varies students. I find it hard to choose a favorite. I enjoy teaching and tutoring all subjects. My approach in my classroom is to meet the needs of students individually.
I love to teach writing because I have been very successful at getting good results with my students. I have helped them improve their writing skills in ways that they never thought possible. I am an empathetic and active listener who helped them turn their thoughts and ideas into exceptional writing material. I used a step by step method by starting with writing a good topic sentence and a solid paragraph and then leading into the parts of an essay. I also had them write for different purposes like explaining how to do something or writing a descriptive essay. I found teaching writing to be a most fulfilling task and one that left me inspired by my students achievements as much as they felt inspired by my enthusiasm and positive and encouraging approach. I also have a Ph.Din American and European literature and can tutor in those subjects as well.
I received my Bachelor's of Architecture from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a minor in Graphic Design. During my time at UT, not only did I make the Dean's list the majority of my semesters there (even during the pandemic) I also TA'ed for a first-year course and enjoyed being able to help them, because I remember being a freshman and feeling super lost about things, so being able to help guide them and show them not only how to navigate software such as Rhino, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and other interfaces but also help them learn how they should think. Design studies are hard because there isn't always the traditional "right" answer, and that took me a bit longer to understand that even though there isn't a classical right and wrong, knowing how to think about and explain your design & design process is crucial.
I am a 21-year-old Honors Political Science student at the University of Tennessee, graduating in May 2026, with a strong academic foundation in government, history, and analytical writing. Beyond academics, I have been actively involved in fraternal life at UTK, where I received multiple awards for member education and advancement. As a tutor, I am committed to creating a supportive, student-focused environment where concepts are made accessible and engaging. I strive not only to help students improve academically, but also to equip them with the skills and confidence they need to succeed independently.

Since I can remember I have had a passion for learning math and science. Knowing I loved both math and science and needing a challenge, I made my way to the University of Tennessee where I chose to major in Nuclear Engineering, the most difficult sounding engineering specialty I could think of (whether it was actually the hardest is to be determined). While there I earned my B.S. and M.S. with honors, and completed the coursework for my Ph.D. I was awarded multiple fellowships and interned at several national laboratories. Tutoring experience from school and engineering experience from internships showed me that I preferred teaching math and science over being an engineer. Because of my background, I have a lot of experience navigating the numerous pathways leading from university, to graduate school, to the professional world. My mission is to equip every student I tutor with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their STEM courses, no matter their age, socioeconomic background, or motivation level. I teach problem-solving techniques and study strategies through collaborative learning, step-by-step tutorials, and numerous examples. We will work together to find strategies that work for you and that you can confidently use on your own. I have formally tutored classmates, family, and paying clients, from high school all the way through graduate school and beyond. I tutor math and physics courses up to Calculus 3 and Modern Physics, as well as a variety of lower level engineering courses. I provide help on homework and tutoring for writing/editing research papers and lab reports.
I have my Masters Degree in teaching Elementary Education, my English as a Second Language certification, and a Bachelors in studio art. For the past 9 years, I have taught in both in the United States and in Europe. I always strive to make sure my students have fun while learning!
