Tutoring is about providing a student with the tools to think well and then apply those thoughts in conversation, writing, and action. I have experience as a tutor, supplemental instructor, and mentor as well as a love for discussion outside of a work environment. As a Philosophy Major, I know the structure necessary to build strong arguments. I believe providing this structure to other learners allows them to build strong arguments as well, but in their own way. The goal of tutoring is not to provide one correct answer, but to encourage the student to think and succeed individually. In terms of Philosophy, I am best suited for a student considering Anchient, Modern, Existential or Ethical topics. I am most acquainted with the works of Aristotle, Plato, Aquinas, Boethius, Descartes, Kant, Mill, Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, Sartre and Camus. I have a thorough understanding of such ethical approaches as Virtue Ethics, Kantianism, Utilitarianism and Cultural Moral Relatavism. If you are looking to strengthen your knowledge in any of these areas, I am more than capable of helping.

I am passionate about helping students do well in their coursework because I know what it is like to struggle with understanding certain concepts. There would be times where I didn't know how to answer a type of problem or how to ask questions. I found that the greatest solution to being stuck in these situations is to ask for help from someone who knows the material and can explain it to me in a way that I can understand. I work towards helping students understand the concepts behind their coursework so that they'll know how to answer questions they face on homework assignments and exams. I like to ask students questions about the topic with which they are having trouble to gauge their understanding while also challenging them to think.I have a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from Rutgers University-New Brunswick. I tutored students throughout all four years of my undergraduate career, ranging from elementary students to fellow undergraduate students. I helped elementary students who spoke English as a second language in math and reading for a year, I taught Chemistry to other undergrad students for a whole academic year, and I tutored middle school students and high school students in subjects with which they had trouble for a year and a half. These subjects were often algebra, geometry, and physics.

Meeting educational goals can be challenging. Attaining said goals should also be a positive and rewarding process. I work with students to identify academic challenges and learn about strengths in order to tailor tutoring to each student's needs. I believe that it is most beneficial to capitalize on strengths and transform learning and studying from chores to enjoyable activities. Moreover, I strive to introduce you to a variety of skills, techniques, and ways of approaching schoolwork and test preparation to help you find what works best for you so that you can apply them both in our work together, and in the long term throughout your education.I hold a bachelor's degrees in education studies and psychology, and am currently pursuing graduate school in psychology. I enjoy working with students of all ages and look forward to working with you to help you attain your educational goals!

I am a graduate of Drew University, class of 2012. I received my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, with a focus on creative writing and 20th Century American authors as well as a minor in Classics. In college, I worked at the Drew University Writing Center for two years tutoring undergraduate, graduate, and English Second Language (ESL) students. My senior year I was chosen to participate on the Drew University panel at the International Writing Center Association’s (IWCA) annual conference held in Orlando, Florida, where I gave a speech on the adjustments that tutors need to make when tutoring ESL students. I have also worked for the Drew University Summer College Mentor Program where I mentored four inner-city high school students one-on-one and accompanied them as they experienced what college was like for one week. Through my work at the Writing Center, I have experience helping with papers on a wide variety of subjects and have tutored anything from graduate theses papers to introductory level essays. My passion for creative writing drives my tutoring philosophy and with any paper I believe it is paramount that a writer start with the fundamentals. Once a writer knows the foundations of a good paper, then he or she can start to play with the rules and flow of the paper to make the it his or her own. It is critically important to me that the tutee feels, whatever the subject is, the paper is written in their voice. One strategy I use with every tutee is to have them read the paper aloud. This not only helps with sentence structure and syntax but also gives the tutee a chance to hear how their paper sounds. I've found that by doing this over several sessions and different papers, the tutee notices patterns in their own writing that they can choose to keep or adjust and allows them to identify with something in every paper they write, even if it’s something that may not be a creative writing assignment.

I'm an incoming junior studying Economics and Music at the University of Pennsylvania. This summer I'm interning at Life or Death, a music management and public relations company that specializes in building the careers of independent artists. Music is my passion, and I spend a lot of my free time attending shows and looking for new music.I have several years of experience tutoring students in math (pre-algebra, algebra I/II, pre-calculus, and calculus) and SAT prep. I also coached mock trial debate as part of the National Hispanic Institue Youth Leadership Conference, where I learned how important it is to express yourself and your ideas clearly. In my experience, a student can't learn if he or she doesn't see the connection between academics and pursuing one's dreams. For example, Algebra may seem useless in daily life, but a solid foundation in math allows me to understand basic principles of business that are essential for working with others. Through being friendly and accessible, I work to make students feel engaged with the material rather than just memorizing facts.

Hi! I am Florida State and Boston University graduate. I received a Bachelor of Arts in English and Humanities from FSU followed by my Master of Arts in Teaching from BU. I am a certified Language Arts/English teacher who is passionate about making an impact through education. I have led my students to great gains in the classroom with a combination of hard work, targeting misconceptions, catering learning styles to specific needs, and focusing on improving specific skills (rather than a general concept). I believe that for great teaching to take place, there needs to be a deep knowledge of both the subject and the student. I will work hard to get to know students and their individual interests; relationship building will be a foundation for the work we do together. I also have high expectations and will push us both to work hard to achieve the student's immediate and long-term academic goals.I have experience teaching in a charter school in New England, an inner-city school in Boston, a private college preparatory school in Virginia, and a public school in Florida. All of those experiences with students have granted me deep insight into cultivating success. I am passionate about building a student's self-confidence, working deeply with a text, and watching an essay develop. When not working with students, I am walking my favorite park, on my yoga mat, hanging out with my family, listening to podcasts, writing in my journal, reading a book, or listening to peaceful ambient music.
