I am a graduate of Nova Southeastern University where I received my Master of Science in Management and Administration of Educational Programs. I received my undergraduate degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Speech Language Pathology. I have worked in education for twenty-plus years as a speech pathologist, exceptional education teacher, language arts teacher, assistant principal, dean, and district administrator. I have a passion for learning which is why I am currently working on my second Master of Science in Instructional Design. I enjoy learning and teaching. I have found the most joy in helping struggling students in small group learning because sometimes students just need a few more minutes or a few more examples for the spark to ignite. I've most enjoyed helping students find the main idea in passages and get beyond the "writer's block" to get an assignment complete. Since reading is cross-categorical, knowing how to read a word problem and pull out the key information in order to solve a problem is a must have skill. In my spare time, it is devoted to my family. My son keeps me busy with sports.

I graduated from The University of Texas at Arlington with two Master's of Education degrees. The first degree is in Literacy Studies, where I learned how to help strugglers and emergent bilinguals become better readers. My second degree is in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. I have spent the last three decades helping people learn how to do various things--from water safety instruction and playing the piano--from phases of matter to Shakespeare! I am a well rounded scholar and I am a life-long learner. I hope to start a PhD in Literacy Studies in 2023.I believe that every person CAN and WILL learn. I also believe that learning can be fun. This was a challenge during the pandemic, but my students and I succeeded in creating a collegial atmosphere of engaged learners.

Education, for me, is about finding your passion and helping others do the same. Education isn't just the books you read in school or the math problems you practice at home. It is about finding yourself and the passion that ignites you to move forward. It can come from the challenges we face, or it can come from the accomplishments we achieve, the goal we helped our teammates score in soccer. Educating students is more than placing them in a school, it's about igniting their passions and that is what I aim to do as an educator.As a student, I fell in love with language and it quickly became my passion. To me, language is the key to understanding the world, but more than that, it has allowed me to understand the diversity of people and thought. Language is an amazing and unique tool that has allowed all of us to communicate in some way or another, and it was this passion for language that drove my education. I began by double majoring in anthropology and French at the University of New Mexico, and three short years later, I followed with an MA in anthropology and education at Teachers College, Columbia University, where I completed my research in my home away from home-France.As a tutor, I like to help students find the knowledge and passion from within by understanding who they are and what they need in order to be successful. By allowing students to find a bit of themselves in their learning, they are able to strengthen their personal skills and become more connected to what they are learning.School is not all I do though. In my spare time, I love to travel and explore the world, taking a trip whenever and wherever I can, learning to cook new recipes wherever I go. I also love to do yoga, rock climbing, hiking and be anywhere outdoors. The sunshine is my happy place because it can be found even on the seemingly darkest of days!

Photography, Art, and AP Art are a few of the classes I have over a decade of experience teaching after graduating with a B.A. in Art and Education and a M.A. in School Leadership.
