Working with a private tutor can make it easier for students to admit when they need help, allowing them to seek clarification before a miscommunication becomes a serious learning obstacle.

Furthermore, Varsity Tutors has created an exclusive Live Learning Platform that allows students to meet their instructor anywhere with a reliable internet connection. Please keep reading to learn more about how easy private instruction can be.

The Most Certified 8th Grade Math Tutors Available

If you tried to find an 8th grade math tutor by yourself, you would need to make sure that any candidate knew how to explain concepts taught in grade 8, including how to use functions to describe quantitative relationships, solving systems of linear equations, and the fundamentals of congruence. Or, you could rely on our extensive network of well-vetted tutors who have demonstrated their knowledge of all of these subjects already.

Similarly, a great tutor needs to have outstanding communication skills that allow them to share their knowledge with students. You could try to verify that on your own, or you could let our trained Educational Directors handle the logistics for you. We'll also find you somebody who can adapt their methodology to your student's innate learning style, improving study efficiency. Why do the research that goes into finding a great tutor when we've finished it already?

How much does an 8th grade math tutor cost?

The price of 8th grade math tutoring depends on several different variables, including the specific concepts your student needs to review and how often study sessions take place. For instance, a student who connects with a tutor through our Instant Tutoring service for immediate assistance may pay a different rate than a student who meets their instructor every weekend.

If you're concerned about the cost of private tutoring, we can enroll your student in a Varsity Tutors 8th grade math class online or arrange group tutoring to get them the academic support they need. Please contact us today for more specific pricing information on all three options.

How does online 8th grade math tutoring work?

As noted above, our exclusive Live Learning Platform allows your student to meet their 8th grade math tutor anywhere with a reliable internet connection. If you're concerned about the quality of online instruction, there's no reason to be.

Our platform is equipped with a suite of features such as a virtual whiteboard and video chat to help students feel as though they are in the same room as their instructor even if they are actually miles apart. Our platform also records every study session automatically, allowing your student to go back for a refresher whenever they like. You can also watch your student's study sessions to monitor their progress.

Are 8th grade math tutors worth it?

If you invested in a software-based tutoring service, your student would be stuck with a rigid curriculum that may introduce fresh concepts too quickly or slowly for them. In contrast, a live 8th grade math tutor can adapt their pacing to how your student is faring.

If they immediately grasp the Pythagorean Theorem, their instructor can move on to something else to keep study sessions as engaging as possible. If they are having a hard time determining the slope of a line, their instructor can provide fresh explications and examples until the material sinks in.

Research suggests that tutored students outperform their peers in 90 percent of cases, but every student responds differently. Contact Varsity Tutors online or by phone today to discover what a tutor could do for the student in your life!

Online 8th Grade Math Tutoring review by Melinda
The student and I continued to work through his final review packet. Now that he has been introduced to algebra, he did much better with surface area and volume problems. He still struggles a bit with word problems, but we marked them to review during our next session. According to his mother, he made a 98% on his last math test, a marked improvement from his earlier tests. Like usual, he did very well during our session. He is to finish the sections on surface area and volume for homework, so that we can focus on his "problem" areas for the session before the final. He is to transfer his notes to a new notebook, making sure to organize it according to the chapter.

During this tutoring session we covered adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing integers. The student and I reviewed the rules involving whether the answer was negative or positive. I did not see any scores/grades to note progress. I did not leave her with any extra practice. I have no concerns from this session.

The student and I worked on his grammar and math homework today. We reviewed subjects and objects of sentences and how to identify them using clues from the verb. Then we focused on math and how to work through a problem (especially charts) to identify the slope. We spent the last fifteen minutes talking about general goals as he prepares for graduation and high school.

The student and I spent the session reviewing for a test she will take tomorrow. We began by doing practice problems involving writing proportions to figure out missing side lengths on similar shapes. We then went back and did several problems involving vertical angles, complementary angles, and supplementary angles. We reviewed important vocabulary and classified triangles using sides and angles. I asked her to review the terms associated with the unit (complementary vs. supplementary, scalene, isosceles, etc.). Once she was able to set up her problems, she did very well with solving them. My main focus was to help her quickly identify vocabulary so she will easily be able to set up the problems when she sees them on the test.

The student has a final exam in math this coming Tuesday. Her teacher has provided her with a large packet reviewing concepts from past units/chapters. Tonight we reviewed point slope format, graphing linear equations, and solving inequalities through elimination and substitution. The student has a firm grasp on these concepts and understands them but is a little rusty, with review she quickly remembers and can quickly complete the problem. We are planning on meeting this coming Monday night to prepare for the exam on Tuesday.

The student will have an exam on Thursday on Statistics. We used her statistics review sheet as a guide. I rewrote the questions for her by changing the numbers and samples. The student did very well. Topics included finding mean, mode, median, range, upper quartile, lower quartile, upper value, lower value, outliers, box and whisker plots, leaf, trees, and keys. Next session will focus on slope. The student is extremely enthusiastic. We did a two minute challenge that the student was able to complete in less than the two minutes.
