Hi, I'm Shannon Wills! I'm a current student at Keene State College in New Hampshire and I absolutely love it. Currently, I am studying Elementary Education and History with hopes to minor in Spanish as well. I've been a part of classroom environments since I was 13, beginning my experience in a toddler classroom as a volunteer for ages 16 months to 3 years. As I got older, my love for teaching grew and I began to work in summer school classrooms! For two summers I had the amazing opportunity to be a part of a 5th grade summer school classroom. Within the classroom, I helped the head teacher with lessons and guided reading, writing, and math activities. I'm definitely a big fan of interactive activities and learning like Kahoot or Jeopardy! I also spent a summer as a camp counselor and I found my passion for arts and crafts. From construction paper to glitter, I love getting creative and having fun with it. This past summer, I worked as a part of an amazing program and spent my summer connecting and teaching within a second grade classroom alongside two other amazing teachers! Like the 5th grade classroom, my focus was mainly on helping build lesson plans and working both individually and in groups with our students. Teaching is something I absolutely love and it has always been a passion of mine. I love it as not only do I get to help learn, but I'm also learning so much from you! As a future teacher, I want to make learning environments personal and fun. Growing up I always learned the most when teachers made lessons colorful and fun, which is something that I want to carry on. I believe that a classroom should be an environment of cohesive fun and learning. I hope that through my own effort and teaching, I myself can show our future generations how amazing they are and how they can achieve anything they put their minds to!

I am currently completing a double major in Mathematics and Biology along with a minor in Chemistry at Pacific University of Oregon. I have enjoyed these subjects for as long as I can remember and have always helped out my friends when they were having trouble. Now in college, I work as a tutor in the Center for Learning and Student Success and give official help to my peers. I have found that sciences always seem to be taught in the same structure which makes it difficult since everybody learns differently. By being a tutor, I love working with the learner to find what works best for them, then seeing the following face of amazement when it all clicks into place. Over the years it has been a joy to learn and I am excited to spread that same joy to many others.

Having experienced the rigor of learning from myriad tutors and learning centers firsthand, I feel that I have picked up several useful studying and test-taking techniques that may help all different types of students. I think it is important to find the easiest and the most efficient and enjoyable techniques for each particular student, as every individual learns better in different ways. As a college student now, I still use many of these studying strategies and have been exposed to even more from my fellow peers. I am very hard-working and dedicated, not to mention friendly, flexible, and unwaveringly supportive! :-)

I strive to teach students in an interactive way tailored to each student's individual needs, wants, and preferred method of study. As a student, I was consistently left disappointed with teachers who just taught curriculum with no real student engagement, so I seek to change that. I am a graduate of the University of Washington with degrees in Japanese History and Korean Language and Linguistics, with minors in Japanese language as well as Linguistics. I work as an editor and localizer in my spare time and am also an avid gardener and needleworker. While I tutor a variety of subjects, my favorites are Japanese and English. Communication is of utmost importance to me and the more languages learned, the easier it is to communicate and understand the world around us. I have been studying Japanese for 19 years and have a native fluency.

As a college professor, mentor, and tutor for 20+ years, specializing in world religions, religion and society, and writing, my passion is to prepare students to critically interpret uses of language in the world, develop their own expressive skills, and achieve their academic and professional goals. The daughter of under-educated parents, as well as a world-traveler, I am especially committed to supporting first-generation college students, those for whom English is a second language, and working adults as they navigate the challenges of higher ed. Nevertheless, I have taught and mentored graduate students at Harvard and talented undergrads in a variety of disciplines and welcome helping with theses. I graduated from Stetson University with my BA in 2017, and since then have worked in inner city schools. The last two years, I have taught Algebra and Geometry at a charter high school, while managing a math tutorial program within the school. I find great joy is setting students up for success and helping them achieve the utmost in school. I do not only focus on student academic performance, but also on their social-emotional well-being, so they may attain a positive mindset of their day-to-day learning. I'm an honors graduate from University of Houston-Downtown with my B.S. in Applied Mathematics and my minors of Biology, Chemistry and Microbiology.I started tutoring Calculus at my high school in 2005. Ever since that experience, tutoring developed into a passion of mine and I continued tutoring Math along with Chemistry and Physics throughout my undergraduate years. I firmly believe that every student deserves the absolute best instruction possible, and unfortunately this is not always possible in the classroom. I have also had a great deal of experience working on SAT test prep. Although I specialize on the Math section (perfect scores on Math II and Physics subject tests), I can provide test strategies on all sections of the ACT and SAT.I've had experience working with third graders all the way through continuing education students in their fifties and sixties!
