Session Summaries by Physiology Tutors

Long Island, NY Physiology tutoring
Today, we reviewed for the student's test. She had already completed the review and homework over the topics which included Bernoulli's, fluid flow, volume flow rate, buoyancy, and thermodynamics. I helped the student with some extra problems that were from the textbook which resembled the problems on the review and the assignments. She had no issues understanding the concepts since I had helped her reinforce them last week, so the extra problems went pretty smoothly. We were able to complete a total of four problems which had parts a-d.

The student was working with torque and rotational kinematics, so we discussed some of the basics of that, and worked on a few problems and problem-solving strategies. I think he picked up the main ideas well, and with some practice he should be able to easily work with these concepts.

We continued from the last session but working specifically on forces acting on an object with a pulley, strings, or on an incline. The student understood the concept. I encouraged the student to organize the work better for future problems that may be attempted on the textbook that I have given her. There are no concerns at all.

We covered similar topics from the last session - constant rotational motion. She seems to have trouble with creating force diagrams, so we're going to have one session where we just go over vector addition of forces because many of the later problems in physics build off of this. We also did a few problems in energy and work.

I covered Mechanical Energy (Kinetic and potential energy). We solved several problems from her study guide covering work calculation. We solved several dynamic problems using only energy transformation. The student is a quick learner. She missed a whole week of school but had no problem catching up. Very impressive and I admire her for her work ethic.

This was my first ever session with this student. We reviewed work and energy for the sake of her test. I covered with her the difference between conservative and non-conservative forces and how friction plays a role. I explained to her why friction is a negative value as well as the Law of Conservation of Energy. We then did practice problems and I helped her with her homework. In her homework we had to review spring potential energy and gravitational kinetic and potential energy.
