I am a graduate of the University of Calgary, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Since graduation, I have worked as a software developer and have practical experience with variety of technologies. I tutor a variety of subjects related to Computer Science, including computer languages used in web development like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Ruby. My favorite part of teaching Computer Science concepts is helping students break down a complicated subject into manageable parts and build up a powerful understanding -- much like the practice of software engineering itself. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, music, art, and hiking.

I am currently finishing my Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience at the University of Southern California and will continue onto medical school in the fall of 2015 at USC. I have also completed a portion of my studies at the University of Oxford in the UK. I have been tutoring for the last five years and specialize in a variety of subjects at the middle school, high school, and college level - from Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics to Psychology, English, and French. I enjoy helping students develop their study habits, time management skills, reading, writing, and critical thinking abilities at many levels. I truly believe that all students have the potential to excel academically, and it's my pleasure to help them discover the key to unlocking their success. My tutoring style varies depending on the subject and student, but my core philosophy is that tutoring has the greatest long-term effect when students develop a passion for learning and acquire the critical thinking abilities and study habits to last throughout a lifetime. In addition to academia, I spend time teaching health workshops in under-served areas of Los Angeles. I also enjoy running, yoga, and spending time outdoors.

I am a recent graduate of Framingham State University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology along with two minors in Psychology and Neuroscience. I also pursued the pre-medical tract and have a strong background in chemistry (general and organic) and physics. Since graduation, I have completed a course to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and I have been studying for the MCAT exam. While studying at Framingham State, I worked in the Center for Academic Services and Advising as a peer subject tutor in Biology for two years. I also held a position as a Biology Supplemental Instructor leader (SI), for two years. As an SI leader, I attended the introductory biology classes and created review and study sessions based on content covered in laboratory and in lecture. I also have three semesters of experience doing research and writing manuscripts. The final manuscript from my experiments was sent out for publication in June 2014! Before entering college, I took a two year course to become infant/toddler and preschool teacher certified. I have four years of experience working in daycare and preschools with younger children and helping prepare pre-kindergarten students for kindergarten with reading, writing, and basic math.Although I am super passionate about biology, I also enjoy tutoring math, especially at the elementary and middle school level. I have been informally tutoring peers and younger students in math for about 10 years I.e. When I was in middle school, I was tutoring elementary school; when I was in 10th grade, I was tutoring 10th grade and below. Math is a subject where foundation skills are critical. Concepts learned at lower levels are needed for upper levels. I enjoyed tutoring math, because it reinforced concepts that I had learned at a lower level and left me with the satisfaction that my peers and students would be able to grasp those concepts and proceed to the next level. The same holds true for biology. You must grasp concepts learned in introductory biology to understand the greater concepts as well as applications. Biology, the study of life, is all around as, as well as math. These are everyday concepts that can be applied to any career. As an experienced peer tutor, part of my tutoring philosophy is to connect with the student, and provide unique ways for the student to remember something. As both a student and a tutor, I am adamant about using contemporary examples, analogies, acronyms and mnemonics. Also, since I am a visual leaner, I am also a fan of bringing visual images into the class room. Although it may not always seem so, the internet can be your best friend during a tutoring session. I like to find images and explain them to give a deeper understanding of a topic, and when all else fails, I always carry around a personal white board! When I am not in the classroom, I like to find myself immersed in the beautiful culture of the city. At least once a month, I like to take my mom out to a restaurant of a different ethnicity and culture to try some different foods. We most recently discovered a Caribbean restaurant called "Some 'Ting Nice" in Somerville, MA. Although I wouldn't call dancing a talent, I enjoy going out dancing with friends. When I'm not out eating or dancing, I like to test my creativity in the kitchen. I like to look up different recipes that I have eaten in a restaurant, and put my own little spin on it. My favorite dish to cook is my spin on shrimp paella, and arroz con gandules y habichuelas (rice with pigeon peas and pink beans). In the summer time, you are most likely to find me walking the beach or swimming with my cousins. In the winter time, you are most likely to find me in an ice skating rink, or inside cooking! My immersion in the different cultures of the greater Boston area, and my background of tutoring (both formal and informal) along with my experience working in preschools, gives me the experience to work with all types students from toddler to college. I have the patience to work with A+ students who just need a confidence booster to students with a learning disability who need some extra time learning basic math skills. I am passionate about learning and tutoring and hope to one day become a medical doctor who teaches classes in medical school, assisting students to work up to their potential and be the best and compassionate doctor they can be.

I have an engineering background, with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University. Upon completion of my graduate work in environmental and occupational health from the University of North Carolina (MS and PhD), I taught Industrial Hygiene (worker health and safety) at Purdue University for 32 years. The four most important underpinnings of the field of Industrial Hygiene are: 1) working with and caring about people, 2) a strong foundation in mathematics, 3) a strong foundation in science and 4) the ability to problem solve. I feel that my teaching experience, my educational background and most importantly, my commitment to helping students learn make me a perfect fit as your tutor for quantitative skills and admissions exams. As a university professor, I was involved in various types of research projects, interacting with both undergrads and grad students, but my favorite part of professoring was teaching. I feel that my greatest accomplishment as a professor was the success of my students, both during their time as students, and more importantly, in their careers. I have won a number of teaching awards, both within my School of Health Sciences and at the University level. I like to teach with examples and analogies. My exams consisted of a combination of multiple choice, essay and problem solving questions, so I am well versed in all types of questions the students will be faced with on homework or exams. Also, in addition to my teaching experience at Purdue, I have been teaching a one week course in Shanghai yearly since 2008 to prepare Chinese Occupational Health and Safety professionals to take the Certified Industrial Hygienist exam and part of what I help them with are some of the tricks of the trade for successfully taking these types of exams. I also helped my daughter prepare for her GRE exam when her GRE Boot Camp program was suddenly cancelled my prep work with her helped her increase her math score approximately 100 points. On a personal note, I am a loving, patient grandfather to 12 grandchildren. My side interests are playing the clarinet (since 4th grade) and traveling (I've been to China, South Korea, Singapore, Costa Rica, Mexico, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland and others.

I am a graduate of Walt Whitman High School and a current Senior at Harvard University. I am a pre-medical student who has been accepted to medical school, and I am a Slavic Languages and Literatures Major. I have tutored private clients in elementary, middle, and high school math for years; worked with disabled students on improving communication and academic skills through the "Best Buddies" program; and taught English language to Russian speakers during a U.S. State Department study abroad scholarship in Moldova. Though I tutor a wide range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Math, and Public Speaking. In my experience, preparing students for Standardized Testing is immensely satisfying (especially in the Writing and Reading sections) as so much of a student's success is based on their mastery of testing techniques and strategies. I also firmly believe that Public Speaking, as well as organizational skills, are critical to a student's level of confidence and advancement in any subject. I understand that each individual student has a unique approach to learning, and I try to pinpoint the most effective study and comprehension strategies for each of my students, so that he or she feels that his or her time is being used effectively, and so he or she can utilize new tools for success in future classes. In my spare time, I enjoy theater (whether that be participating as a performer or singing along to songs in the car), soccer, dance, and reading.

I am a certified teacher who holds a Professional Teaching Certificate with the Florida State Board of Education. I have taught school at a high school level for 7 years. Courses that I have taught are: AICE Biology.Physical Science, Standard Biology, Honors Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Anatomy and Physiology Honors.I currently hold a BS Degree in Molecular Biology from the University of West Florida. In addition, I have taken several graduate level courses intended to help me to become an even more effective teacher and tutor. Some of these courses include: Adolescent Psychology, Classroom management for Educators, Evaluation and Assessment of Curriculum, Reading Methods: Secondary, and Curriculum Development and Instruction.I feel that I have much to offer to students who are struggling or just need a little extra help with their science courses. For me, it is the student that makes my teaching rewarding and worthwhile. Each one carries with him or her a unique personality, a different way of thinking, and the possibility of a bright and successful future bursting with possibilities. Being a part of, and watching a student make a break-through is quite possibly one of the most satisfying and self-fulfilling experiences there is.I am intensely interested in science and the scientific advances of recent years. I would like to be able to show school-aged children and young adults how science impacts their everyday lives and to hopefully help them to become not only successful in their science courses, but to also become science enthusiasts.During my years of teaching, i have led my students to be able to successfully navigate and pass the Florida Biology End of Course Exam. In addition to my teaching certification, I am also certified in NG-CARPD (content area reading) and excel in teaching students how to read and understand science text.

As a student myself, I have had great success in coursework and with standardized testing. I have a proven track record of taking that experience and applying it to boost both students' test scores and their true understanding of the material.I have 3 years experience as a classroom teacher in a range of environments, along with 3 years tutoring experience. I have current teaching licenses in both Ohio and Maryland for grades 7-12 mathematics, although I am eager to expand my tutoring horizons! I have helped students succeed in math from Algebra 1 through Calculus, though I would be ready and willing to work on subjects from pre-algebra through Calculus 3 (and a bit beyond). I have also helped students preparing for the SAT, ACT, LSAT, and other standardized tests, and have tutored in chemistry and physics as well. I have worked successfully with dozens of students both in person and online.
