Test Prep Tutoring review by Rebekah in Washington DC
The student and I reworked math problems she had missed on her SAT. As we worked, she was encouraged to realize that the math concepts are not always hard. She learned a lot about how to approach the math section as I modeled the reading for her. Once she understands the questions, she is very competent in the calculations and in basic understanding of concepts. The student has developed a strategy to omit the last few questions of each section to allow her time to fully comprehend earlier questions. She feels fairly confident in her ability to improve her score on this weekend's test.

For our final session, I exposed the student to as many different types of ACT Reading as possible. With the goal of finding commonality in the question types and answer strategies. After slowing our pace and focusing on finding solid text evidence for answers, I noted definite progress. I have no concerns about time on this section. The student should perform at least in the mid-20s by taking a methodical approach to main idea, specific details, and vocabulary in context. We wrapped up by discussing how to reduce test anxiety and set section-specific goals.

Test Prep Tutoring review by Michael in Washington DC
We started the session by working on the reading section. In certain passages, he really understood the material and got all the questions correct. I gave him general guidelines for eliminating choices that are too extreme or judgmental. Completed 34 synonyms and defined all words that he didn't know. Worked on math problems involving ratios, averages, and percent change. Even though he had not learned some of the math topics in school, he picked up the content very quickly and adeptly applied that new-found understanding on several math questions. He was very focused today and we achieved a lot in 2 hours.

Test Prep Tutoring review by Sean in Washington DC
Today was our last session for this school year. Today, we worked on an extra credit assignment for English. He wasn't very familiar with topics, so we had to do some research on his books. After that, we discussed some topics to write about, and he wrote a solid miniature essay. It's been a pleasure working with this student. He is quick and has a natural curiosity. I hope he continues to get more interested in school, and that he continues to develop his writing skills in the future!
