The student had a great session. He had read the story on Alexander Fleming, and remembered it well. We reviewed literary devices and then he took his semester assessment. He did really well. He was able to identify key concepts and discuss them intelligently. The one area of improvement that I want to work on with the student later this semester is having him get more practice writing essays. He scored over 90% on his semester assessment. He also got over 95% on his unit checkpoint on life histories. The second also had a really good session. She read weather poems and I taught her how to figure out rhyme schemes. She also caught on very quickly to similes and metaphors. She also got 100% on her spelling test. She also chose her book for the reading unit coming up and is very excited to read The Bravest Dog.

I gave the student a list of words to break up into syllables, and she got just a few wrong. Next I had her spell words from a random list. If she got them wrong they were written on a sheet, and I had her write each three times. The process continued until all were correct. Lastly, I gave her division problems to practice math with.

In today's session, the concept of main idea and supporting details were introduced and discussed and practiced through a short passage readings and a main idea and supporting details graphic organizer. The strategy, "I Do, We Do, You Do," was used to teach the student the way in which to use the graphic organizer to identify the main idea and supporting details of a given passage. The tutorial session closed with a review of the concept of the main idea and supporting details and a demonstration of how the concept and strategy could be applied to books that she reads in her leisure time.
