In today's session, the student and I continued our work on math fluency involving addition. She completed practice exercises to increase her competency using a given strategy. We also used constant time delay to learn doubles. The concept of the turn around rule for addition was discussed using a matching game with flashcards. The rules for adding 1 more, and adding with 0 as an addend were reviewed as well.

The student and I reviewed for a quiz that she is having on Wednesday. She is working on logarithms; she's worked with base 10, other bases, knows the properties of logarithms, and also the way to convert a logarithm to exponential form and vise versa. She did very well with her homework which was a review packet. She just needs to make sure that she checks the answers to make sure she doesn't have extraneous roots. She got into the habit of doing this and was able to determine what to keep and what to exclude. She said that in class the next topic is natural logarithms and since she did well with logarithms so far, she should do well. She also let me know that last week she had a quiz and scored an 80.

The student completed homework on logarithmic functions and did some extra problems to study for his test on Tuesday. He understands the math, but he frequently uses his calculator as a crutch to graph the functions instead of understanding what they mean and should look like.

Today we completed Activity 2.2 and most of 2.3. He also started the 3rd assignment that gets turned in for a grade, almost finishing the first problem (completed parts a - c, need to do d & e).

Today we covered lessons on complex numbers, including addition and multiplication of complex numbers. Then we covered the chapter on chemical mixtures. The student is quickly absorbing all lessons and has great algebra and scientific calculator skills.

The student was still not 100% certain of how to do Gaussian elimination, so we practiced a lot of that. We extended the procedure into larger matrices and talked about ways to speed up the process. By the end, he was pretty confident in solving matrix equations even without a calculator.
