Session Summaries by MCAT Tutors

MCAT Tutoring review by Sujana in Miami, FL
The student and I reviewed his homework passages. We also worked through the first passage from his next practice exam. We did this passage to see how the student would do if time wasn't a concern at all, and found that extra time didn't seem to make a difference. The best way to improve his score may be to focus on comprehension rather than speed. For homework, the student will redo the first passage and we will review it during our next session.

MCAT Tutoring review by Garrett in Miami, FL
We spent the session going over acids and bases. We went trough practice questions and discerned that the student needed to work more on PH calculations and using the buffer equation. Next we talked about electrochemistry, which she seemed to understand quite well. We talked about how to write a cell diagram, as this gave her a bit of trouble, but otherwise she was quite comfortable. We closed by talking about periodic motion, waves, and sound. The student understood sound very well and used the Doppler equation correctly. She needed a bit of help recalling what equilibrium and maximum displacement mean with respect to velocity and acceleration for springs/pendulums though. During our next session we will clean up a few things from physics and then begin our review in earnest.

MCAT Tutoring review by Khrishen in Miami, FL
In this session with the student, we went through her physical and biological sections of her diagnostic test. The student did really well but has some issues with validating her answers from material directly in the passages. During the next sessions, we will be implementing strategies that will ascertain that she is able to integrate this skill in her test taking. Additionally, we reviewed questions from several sources that the student had questions about. For the next session, the student was asked to retake the verbal portion of her test while trying to validate each answer with material from the passages. The student has covered a significant amount of material and I am confident that with this work ethic, she will be achieving her target score for the exam.

MCAT Tutoring review by Maureen in Miami, FL
During this session the student and I focused on circuits and periodic/wave motion. Once the student memorizes the formulas he should be able to work through most of the practice problems very well. He seems to have a good grasp on the concepts after we review them.

MCAT Tutoring review by Austin in Miami, FL
Today the student and I reviewed a practice exam she had taken over the weekend (where she received her highest score of 31!!), reviewed half of the organic chemistry material required for the MCAT, and discussed the differences in mitosis and meiosis. To achieve her high score on her practice exam, the student utilized passage mapping and question mapping skills that we had practiced. Her weakness was in organic chemistry, which we are spending this week reviewing in preparation for her exam this weekend. With a little more practice on organic chemistry and using passage mapping/question mapping strategies the student will hopefully succeed on test day this weekend. As always, she came prepared and eager to learn.
