GRE Tutoring review by Anne in Miami, FL
Today we went over some practice reading comp questions the student had done, and we reviewed and practiced several strategies for these questions, including: Finding proof for the correct answer choice in the passage, rewording the question into a more direct one, thinking of your own answer before looking at the answer choices, and effective process of elimination. We then reviewed working with fractions and went over different averages --- the mean, median, and mode --- and practiced several quantitative section questions involving averages.

GRE Tutoring review by Steven in Miami, FL
Me and the student went over two practice tests that she did in the interim. She is making good progress, her scores are now in the 150 - 155 range. While she has a high mastery of most subjects she is still struggling with geometry. So for homework I assigned her to some more geometry practice problems. We also need to work on her timing as on a few problems she was spending as much as 7 minutes working on them. Still I am very encouraged by her progress.

GRE Tutoring review by Matthew in Miami, FL
Today, we spent some time on general test-taking strategies, and went over a few spots where the student wanted some last minute pointers (particularly last minute tips on organizing the analytical writing portions). We then went over a few last practice math and verbal questions -- the student did very well, and I think she is in quite good shape for the test on Wednesday.

GRE Tutoring review by Neil in Miami, FL
The student and I covered quantitative reasoning and analytical writing today, with a brief focus on vocabulary. He took a practice exam and scored a 315, which is his exact minimum target. We focused on medium-strength number property and geometry questions--he performed very well on the geometry and a fair on the number properties. I believe he will benefit from my intensive study, and this weekend we have 4 hours planned before his exam to do just this. His analytical writing samples were good as well. He needs to improve his ability to get to the issue quickly and then to expand his ideas with depth. His organization, tone and general writing ability, are excellent.

GRE Tutoring review by Beth in Miami, FL
I got to know the student and talked with her about her goals for the admissions test. She has some time to prepare and take the practice test a few times before her application is due in January, so that's good. We spent a lot of time going over the expectations for the writing test, and we practiced formulating a response to an issue prompt and an argument prompt. We also put together a vocabulary study plan.

GRE Tutoring review by Sarah in Miami, FL
The student and I met and discussed her specific concerns with the exam. She will take another practice test to establish baseline scores soon. We reviewed specific areas on the quantitative section that concern her such as questions involving shapes, algebra simplification, and graphs. We then turned our attention to the verbal section. We practiced fill-in-the blank questions (both types) and talked about working on common exam vocab. I also provided general recommendations on test preparation, and we concluded by discussing personal statements for graduate applications.
