I am a graduate from Carnegie Mellon University, where I obtained a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Civil Engineering. I have two years of experience tutoring minority middle and high school students in several subjects including Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, Physics, Spanish and other subjects. During my college years I also worked as a teaching assistant for several engineering courses. Throughout my experience as a tutor, I developed a strong passion for helping students achieve their academic goals. I strive to quickly identify the teaching strategies that work best with each student, and focus on using these strategies to explain the underlying concepts that have led to their current difficulties in a given subject. My teaching style is based on a firm belief that the best way to learn is by teaching: I usually have students explain to me what they DO understand, so that I have a better understanding of what they DO NOT fully grasp. Most importantly, I believe in creating a friendly environment, where students can let go of any insecurities and feel comfortable to share and work together with me to achieve their academic goals

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that the best way to learn is by teaching! I challenge students to change roles with me and teach me what they know. This exercise is very effective in helping me identify the strengths and weaknesses of a student so that I can develop an effective personalized plan to achieve their academic goals.
