Today was a very successful day. The student was eager and very productive. His mother told me that she has seen a difference in his math performance inside the classroom and also said that he was eager to have the session today. We reviewed the steps for one step inequalities and began a new content which involved Geometry. In the time span that we had, he quickly grasped the content and seemed to enjoy it. He is a great student who is always eager to learn. I left the mother with some practice questions.

During this session, we did some last-minute preparation for his upcoming exam. The questions we worked with primarily concerned u-substitution, trigonometric substitution, and general numeric techniques of integration. I believe that he will be well prepared for his exam, especially since we went over some further partial fractions. I look forward to seeing what the scores will be.

Tutoring review by Kristi in Hagerstown, MD
We reviewed for the student's test. We went through all the practice problems I gave her during the last session. She did well with all of them, except a few problems dealing with logarithms and derivatives. We went through several practice problems on logarithms. I think she got more used to it the more we did it. She seems pretty comfortable with it now. Hopefully that level of confidence continues for tomorrow's test. Some derivative problems can be tricky, but she doesn't have any problem with the basic ones. We did a few practice problems on this topic. We'll discuss the more complicated types of these problems during tomorrow's session, but her understanding is where it should be for her test. Finally, we went through each problem type for tomorrow's test and discussed her conceptual understanding of the problem. She is definitely where she needs to be. As a whole she has a very sound understanding of the concepts that will be on tomorrow's test. I reiterated her need to double check for small mistakes, and told her to slow down and give herself that extra few seconds on each problem to make sure she hasn't made a small arithmetic error that will cost her points.

Today I helped the boys prepare for a unit test that they will have tomorrow. We worked on elements of a short story and practiced writing. The boys worked really well, and I am excited to see how they do on their test tomorrow.

Tutoring review by Aaron in Hagerstown, MD
We went over several concepts in optics, mostly slit interference and diffraction gratings but also the general concepts of dispersion, refraction, and diffraction. The problems we did were simple trigonometry applications and slit interference pattern formulas. The student followed easily when I explained what each variable was and showed her the relevant diagrams on the hyperphysics website.
