Summer Tutoring review by Attiyah in Orem, UT
Today, we focused on Spanish. The student has a Spanish quiz tomorrow, so we focused on the vocabulary first. He worked on memorization by making flashcards. He then moved on to makes sentences of the terms in Spanish.

Summer Tutoring review by Walter in Orem, UT
The student, his father, and I talked about his overall study skills. It is apparent to me that the student is not connecting to his teacher's teaching style. We talked about what he did in study sessions. I coached him that he needs to go to school tutoring with specific questions to be answered. We reviewed his most recent progress report in math. Again, today's session was more about coaching him on his study skills.

Summer Tutoring review by Alexandra in Orem, UT
The student and I met for the first of two sessions this week in order to help prepare her for upcoming exams. On Monday, she and I prepared study materials for her Science exam. Using a combination of her in-class notes and a study guide she had printed from her e-boards class site, we systematically made our way through the topics of the exam. We took a two-pronged approach to this exam, where she made note cards for given topics, and I created practice test questions for the same material. Topics covered included states of matter; definitions of terms such as weight, mass, matter, and density; and questions regarding density of water and weight versus weight on various locations (e.g. the moon versus the center of the earth). After making both the flashcards and the practice test, she and I went through both repeatedly and discussed topics that she did not quite grasp. I was thrilled to learn that she got a 91 on her test!

Summer Tutoring review by Kaitlyn in Orem, UT
Today, the student had another essay he had to write, this time about the allegory in a Nathaniel Hawthorne short story. This essay turned out to be a bit more difficult for him, as he was really having to do some high-level thinking about the allegory and how it was present in one character. I had to guide him some in how to structure his essay, although his teacher created a very detailed rubric. I reassured the student's dad that the student was doing a very good job.

Summer Tutoring review by Gregory in Orem, UT
On 11/16, we met for an hour and went over class assignments in the student's Language Arts course. He showed me an autobiography assignment he is working on with other students. He selected George Bush, and I showed him how to take notes/outline and prepare for essay exam taking. I made photocopies of my material and gave it to him for his reference. On11/23, he and I worked on a Journalism Article. He has to write an investigative piece on a topic of his choice. He made a good start and wrote 1 of 2 pgs. We primarily focused on the introduction, anecdote, and how to work in quotes and data. I will continue making notes on grammatical issues so I can help him proofread on his own. Overall, he made a great start, and I look forward to reading and helping with the rest of the article.
