Session Summaries by Latin Tutors

Latin Tutoring review by Erin in Orem, UT
The student has finished with his class in school, so we are translating texts by various Classical authors. I'll keep looking for some amusing texts for him. I think he has a solid foundation in the language and just needs practice working through some translations.

Latin Tutoring review by Lorna in Orem, UT
We reviewed everything that we could. We went over recognizing parts of speech, verb forms and translation, participles with noun agreement, and practicing multiple choice. By the end of the session the student had improved in translating Latin verb forms back into English. He was reluctant to try in the beginning of the session but by the end he seemed less resistant and made real progress. He is fantastic at breaking verbs and nouns down into their grammatical parts and can easily tell the person, number, tense, and voice of any verb. He still struggles a bit with taking that same grammatical description and interpreting how that translates into English. We spent a significant amount of time on this and he seemed to be getting the hang of it. I wish him luck on his test!

Latin Tutoring review by Amelia in Orem, UT
Today, we went over some more of the student's blank exams, touching a bit on history before focusing on future passive, passive infinitives, and translation. She is still confusing some of her forms, so I highly recommend that she re-fill in the worksheets I sent on Monday. She should also look over all the tests one last time to make sure there aren't any concepts she has forgotten.

Latin Tutoring review by Kerry in Orem, UT
The student did an absolutely great job today! We launched into our review of nouns today, and we covered the six cases and their functions, and concentrated on the nominative (subject) and accusative (most of time, direct object) cases. We started on the other four cases.

Latin Tutoring review by Jonathan in Orem, UT
Today the student and I worked on his verb conjugations for the first hour. We went over the active and passive voices for the indicative mood in the present, imperfect, future, perfect, pluperfect, and future perfect tenses. We went over not only how the endings are formed, but also how each of these is translated. We then worked on translation focusing on correct verb translation. Next week we will begin by going over the forms for the subjunctive mood, and how they are translated within certain clauses.

Latin Tutoring review by Sabrina in Orem, UT
We started preparing for her final exam. We plan to have one (or two more, depending on the date of the final) session before this exam. We started discussion of Latin grammar concepts like the passive periphrastic, their incorporation of gerunds and gerundives, the difference between gerunds and gerundives, sequence of tenses, purpose clauses, result clauses, and indirect commands.
