Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Nick in Orem, UT
The student had a take-home test on which she had several questions she wanted help on. Because it was a formal assessment, I could not give her direct feedback on answers, but I gave her general information pertaining to the concepts she encountered.

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Kira in Orem, UT
The student's quiz on molar math took place today and she got a 95%. Her teacher identified the topics from her SAT II practice book that they will not be going over in class, so we spent today working on those topics together. First we discussed thermochemistry. I explained enthalpy, entropy, Gibbs free energy, Hess' Law, and heats of formation. She then completed practice problems and only had trouble with the problems that involved acids and bases since she hasn't completed that unit yet. Afterwards we looked at a chapter on common periodic groups and their properties, and ended with an introduction to organic chemistry. For homework I recommended that she create flashcards for the different organic functional groups.

We went over electric forces. I had the student calculate forces on three charges in a row as well as the three puzzlers from an AP conference. Finally, I had him do a lower charge in a triangle. We will do the upper charge as well as a square before moving on to electric fields in our next session.

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Cara in Orem, UT
We discussed the structure of plants, including the three types of tissue, ground tissue, dermis, and vascular (xylem and phloem), the process by which water moves up xylem via transpiration and capillary cohesion/ adhesion, and how sugar is made in the leaves and then moves down to the rest of the plant via phloem. We discussed what comprises ground tissue and the dermis, as well as specific vocabulary terms, questions, etc. I thought the session went very well.

Organic Chemistry Tutoring review by Javier in Orem, UT
We reviewed the student's homework problems which covered measures of central tendency, histograms and frequency distributions, Z-scores and statistical inference, stem-leaf plots, and box plots. The student in general had a better understanding of the material conceptually but needed some help in the computation. I left her with some useful tips on how to calculate basic features (quartiles, median, variance) in Excel. We will continue to work on this.
