Reading Tutoring review by Tessa in New Lenox, IL
Today we reviewed the final draft of the second essay for the class. I had a few corrections to discuss from the copy you had emailed to me. We moved through the corrections in a great pace and were able to focus the ideas of your next assignment to fit the approved thesis. The category you have chosen to write on lends to quite a bit of research, the key is keeping it focused to meet the requirements of class by maintaining focus on the thesis. We have a session scheduled for Friday and will discuss our schedule further then.

Reading Tutoring review by William in New Lenox, IL
I alternated with both students. I gave the first student a writing assignment of going through the 5 steps of writing: pre-write, draft, revise, proof read and publish. I gave her an editorial about elephants being discontinued in the Ringling Brothers Circus in 2018. She read it, and we worked together on the pre-write. While she worked on the draft of the introduction, I worked on grammar with the second student. We reviewed 10 pages of pronoun usage and matching verbs with subjects and then he took 2 oral quizzes. They both are to finish writing a 3 paragraph essay from their editorials for next session.

Today was my first session with the student. I started by asking him some questions about what specific problems he was having in his English class. We talked about them, and he showed me some samples of papers he had recently written. I read a paragraph and saw some common spelling and grammar mistakes which I pointed out to him. Next we went over his current assignment, which is an annotated bibliography with at least nine sources. This will be part of a larger assignment culminating in a eight to ten page research paper. I instructed him on how to go about finding resources for the bibliography and to narrow down his research to a specific topic from a list of possibilities given by his professor. I will work more on this with him next week and monitor his progress, giving him guidance as we move ahead.

Reading Tutoring review by Linda in New Lenox, IL
Today the student's focus was completing both her civics assignment and her science. She had three worksheets to complete. One was a passage that was focused on the Zika virus and how it was contracted to vaccines used for it. A second sheet focused on the Enlightenment Era, which was a continuation from last week. The final task was focused on several vocabulary terms, such as boiling point, freezing point, expansion, and matter, a total of 10 items that had questions to follow. We still had about 20 minutes left after she had completed these, so I listened to her read until time for me to leave.

Reading Tutoring review by Lisa in New Lenox, IL
Today was a very good session with this student. It seems that when she's had a day or two to rest, all of the concepts of reading, letters, and sounds congeal for her. She wrote two sentences, sounding out the words and reading and re-reading the sentences aloud. I find that when she can take ownership of her learning, she feels empowered and much more motivated. We also worked on sight words list 1 and 2, which she is improving on. We had time to read a short, simple story, "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," and I encouraged her to practice her reading skills by reading this story to her little sister. She knows some of the words already from her sight word list, but because she knows the song, she is able to start to improve her reading skills by recognizing the larger words.
