Hello, my name is Deanna and I look forward to working with you! I am nearly finished with my PhD in English Rhetoric and Composition. I enjoy both composing and listening to music, painting, drawing, and swimming. I have over ten years of teaching experience throughout grades K-16. Most recently, I have been teaching introductory and intermediate composition classes for a large university in Detroit, Michigan. I have experience teaching in classrooms and online. I also have over ten years of tutoring experience both in the public education setting and privately. My methodology is founded in the principle that communication and the opportunity to learn are integral to a student's life, both inside and outside the classroom. I enjoy working with students at all ability levels and watching them achieve their goals.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from The University of North Texas. Once I graduated, I quickly landed my dream position as a second grade math and science teacher. I then transferred to a school closer to home, to teach 4th grade. I quickly fell in love with teaching older students my favorite subject, math! After four years with 4th grade, I was moved to 5th grade math and social studies. I soon realized I loved the conversations that my classes and I would have when reading articles or learning about the American Revolution. After one year in 5th grade, I decided to go back to school to obtain my Masters in School Counseling from Lamar University. My ten years in teaching have taught me alot, but the most important is that every child learns differently. It is not always easy, but when I can figure out how to adapt to each students needs it is truly rewarding to see how excited they are when they understand new concepts.
I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas.
Hi, I'm Olivia! I'm a certified teacher with experience working with students in both online and traditional classroom settings. One of my favorite things about teaching is helping students gain confidence in themselves and their abilities. I know that everyone learns differently, so I focus on meeting students where they are. I strive to make sessions engaging, supportive, and encouraging so students feel comfortable asking questions, tackling challenges, and reaching their goals.
Why reinvent the wheel? The wheel is so boring....I have been teaching for almost 20 years. I have a unique style of getting to know each student personally and meeting them where they are. I believe that technology has made the educational playing field level as each student has the ability to have a truly individual education tailored just to them.

I strive to create engaging and personalized learning experiences that meet students' individual needs while building strong writing and critical thinking skills. That's what makes me passionate about tutoring!
I have my B.S. in Exercise Science & Fitness Management and my M.S. in Human Performance. I have 15+ plus years in the Health, Wellness and Physical Rehabilitation profession. I have successfully tutored, mentored and trained over 50+ personal trainers and wellness coaches in the areas of certification prep, working with clients with physical limitations and business marketing development to help them acquire more clients.Overall, I LOVE the health and wellness profession as I am now at a stage in my career and life where it brings me absolute joy to share my knowledge, expertise and passion with others in the profession that are new, fairly new and eager to work in this awesome profession.Due to that passion and just with my perspective on life, I have high energy at times. So don't be surprised if I start to cheer or say "whooohoooo" or "let's goooo" when you get a correct answer or master a certain concept. I love to celebrate people's "wins".One of my favorite quotes is "The greatest wealth is health" by Virgil (A Roman Poet)
There are many wonderful views and thoughts on the benefits of education that spark inspiration and motivation. At this moment, the one I would like to share with you is from the late, critically acclaimed filmmaker Stanley Kubrick: "I think the big mistake in schools is trying to teach anything by using fear as the basic motivation. Fear of getting failing grades, fear of not staying with your class, etc. Interest can produce learning on a scale compared to fear as a nuclear explosion to a firecracker." As a proponent of formal and lifelong education, self-discovery, and self-expression, I believe in the exchange of ideas and evaluation of information to successfully choose one's path moving forward. Ignorance and misinformation get us nowhere and only hinder our progress and success. Perhaps the main reason I view education as a passport to personal success is that it allows people to find happiness and satisfaction within themselves instead of using external metrics to measure their accomplishments. This allows people to build confidence within themselves and chase their dreams and unleash their passions. With a background in journalism and education, I obtained degrees from Howard University in Washington, DC (Journalism) and Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas (Educational Technology Leadership). Since 2005, I have taught a variety of subjects at the middle school, high school, and college levels including English, Language Arts, Writing, English as a Second Language, and First-Year Experience: Education 1300. In addition, I have worked as an online editor and freelance writer, so I enjoy teaching anything that involves reading and writing. I have also passed TExES teacher certification in the state of Texas. Another aspect of teaching that I enjoy is meeting a variety of people, as diversity is important, and creating relationships by identifying what we have in common. I want to transform people's negative experiences with education by meeting them where they are and helping them chart a personal path to attain their goals and dreams. And when I'm not involved in education, you can find me making music, watching Netflix or Disney+, or plotting my next trip to an unknown destination. If you have ever viewed education as a "punitive" or "hurtful" process, I'd like to change that. Feel free to drop me a message or jump right in and give me a try. Looking forward to meeting and working with you.
As a teacher with 10 years of experience, I am excited about the opportunity to apply my skills and experience here at Varsity Tutors. In addition to my Masters in Education, I have found history, government and economics extremely exciting and linked together in many respects. I also have 3 years experience teaching history and government to high school students. What I have learned through that experience was that to get kids to understand and value historical events, I had to make these events come to life. I implemented unorthodox teaching strategies such as combining film, biographies and historical accounts together to make these events memorable for them. I am passionate about teaching and helping students come to love the act of learning and I would cherish the opportunity to transform the way your students view history, government and economics.
I like math and the critical thinking that it involves. I see math problems as little puzzles to be put together and solved, and puzzles are also one of my favorite hobbies. Math problems can often be solved in more than just one way, and finding different ways to solve one problem is something that always keeps math interesting for me. Math, in my opinion, is one subject that can help develop the ability to see different perspectives of a single situation.I am a certified Texas Teacher. I have taught math in K-4 and in high school. I have also taught special education in these grades, as well. Reading and writing education are also on my list of strong points.I am a good tutor because I strongly think that with proper attention and patience, all students can understand and dominate math.
I am a graduate of Texas State University where I received my bachelor in Business Marketing. After completing my bachelor I went on to obtain my teaching certificate. I went on to obtain my Masters in Educational Leadership from Lamar University. Since obtaining my teaching certificate I have spent many years in the classroom as a teacher. I have 7 years of classroom teaching experience, as well as 2 years of leadership experience as an instructional coach and assistant principal. I love working with all ages of Elementary students, and better understanding what their needs are, and how I can help them to be successful! I believe that in order for a student to be successful you need to get to know them and truly understand their learning style, and I pride myself on ensuring I build a relationship with all of my students and I do everything I can to ensure their growth and progress. Being a mom to 4 amazing children I don't have a lot of spare time, but when I do have it I enjoy being outside!
