I consider myself to have two lives. For the 18 years of my adult life I worked at various positions at a major oil company assisting lawyers, geologists, and engineers. I decided to complete my bachelor's degree and become an educator. I have a bachelor's degree in Applied Arts and Science, master's degrees in School Administration and School Counseling from Lamar University. I have the following certifications: Special Education, ESL, Generalist (Grades 4-8), Principal, and School Counselor. I have training in assessing for dyslexia and providing skills training for the identified students. I have worked with struggling learners in both the special education and general education population. I have worked with other educators to develop appropriate educational plans for individual students. I believe that all students can learn but that each student needs to be reached in the way that is appropriate for him/her.

I am a graduate of Baylor University with a Masters of Education in Reading Specialist. I worked in the field of education for 28 years, 13 as a Special Education teacher in the resource classroom in middle school and high school and then 15 years as an Educational Diagnostician. I love to read and to instill the joy of reading in students. When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and curling up with a good book.

I like math and the critical thinking that it involves. I see math problems as little puzzles to be put together and solved, and puzzles are also one of my favorite hobbies. Math problems can often be solved in more than just one way, and finding different ways to solve one problem is something that always keeps math interesting for me. Math, in my opinion, is one subject that can help develop the ability to see different perspectives of a single situation.I am a certified Texas Teacher. I have taught math in K-4 and in high school. I have also taught special education in these grades, as well. Reading and writing education are also on my list of strong points.I am a good tutor because I strongly think that with proper attention and patience, all students can understand and dominate math.

I am a graduate of Lamar University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. I also received a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California. I worked eleven years in corporate business as a chemical engineer, until I chose to leave to pursue my passion which is education. For the last thirteen years, I have been teaching developmental math classes at the community college level. In addition, I have been tutoring students of all ages and levels.I enjoy tutoring students, because you get to experience that light bulb moment with them. They realize that things aren't as complex as they were originally thinking. I emphasize showing the rules of math. So often students get confused on certain concepts because they have learned some type of shortcut in the past, which does not apply with all cases. However, if the students just know the rules, they can apply their knowledge with any given problem. The rules will never change; the only thing that changes are the numbers.My tutoring work also helps me be a better classroom teacher, because by working one-on-one you learn where the misunderstandings may be with a particular concept.

I am a graduate of TAMU Commerce. I received my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Special Education. They all live within 20 minutes and are all involved in some type of sport that keeps a grand parent's schedule active. As a Title I teacher, tutoring has always been a must. I received my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from The University of North Texas. Once I graduated, I quickly landed my dream position as a second grade math and science teacher. After four years with 4th grade, I was moved to 5th grade math and social studies. I soon realized I loved the conversations that my classes and I would have when reading articles or learning about the American Revolution. After one year in 5th grade, I decided to go back to school to obtain my Masters in School Counseling from Lamar University. My ten years in teaching have taught me alot, but the most important is that every child learns differently. It is not always easy, but when I can figure out how to adapt to each students needs it is truly rewarding to see how excited they are when they understand new concepts.
